Voltage regulator shorted.

I washed my buell yesterday and i noticed that the insulation on the wire to the voltage regulator was cut open by some of the carbon fiber and the the wires inside were shorted. so now I'm looking for a new voltage regulator. My question is. Is there any change to the voltage regulator over the years.? can i use a regulator from 07 on my buell from 04.

yes ivlark you can as long as the plug on replacement matches plug style on your VR. they were changed in ????early 07??? i believe.

I think 03-05, 06-07, 08-10 match. Same part # to same part # is safest bet. They did change in 07 and 08+ won't fit earlier models. They end up shorting out.
