I really love my scg but I really want a ducati. Sadly I can't afford both. I know I would really miss my buell, especially since it gets so much attention, but every time I see an 848 I can't stop thinking about selling it. What would jesus do. I mean he was pretty much almost italian....would he rock a buell or go for a ducati?

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I don't want to be an Italian and I don't want to ride one either.

I don't think a duc can turn a bad road into a good road. But you know your buell can. If that's not holy enough, I don't know what is.

I was drooling over an 848 just last week. I love my Buell and love nearly every thing about Buell, but DAMN 848's ARE SEX ON WHEELS. Your going to get biased opinions on an XB forum, just get or stay with what you really want.

Shoot I was looking at 1098s just seconds before I read this post. They are awesome bikes. But seriously.... what does it have on a buell? Not comfort, not a flat torque curve, not personality, not low maintenance, not affordability, and it doesn't get half the attention of a buell.

Maintenance is the key word here. the duc needs alot and if you cant do the wrenchin you better have a fat roll of benjamins!

I'd love an 1098 if I was rich and could afford the maintenance of a ducati. A friend of mine has a monster and he told me it cost him almost $800 to have the valves adjusted.

Dave_xb12r, I like to ride a Italian or two or a bunch! Haha

Ducs are hot! But don't get the duc because you want to be like the Jones. The buell is for the working class and fit the working men and women. Ducs are for people that collects, they don't ride the bike like we do. It's like buying a Porche but living with your mom and dad, and you try to rock the duc! If you don't got the money to rock it, do you have the money to maintain it? If not, keep the buell. You'll be happier.

Well there is the 134hp thing.

I'd still prefer my Buell, but plenty of people out there don't like Buells, so I don't feel that it's fair for me to pick on Ducatis.

Must I remind you...

You shall not covet your neighbor's Ducati. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

i bought mine because it looked good, sounded good well it could be made to sound good, and it was american.it dosnt stack up against other bikes though.does it corner great yes but most pics posted show bikes with 2 inch chicken strips so for most owners thats not the reason they bought one.theyre not competive for racing sorry i dont consider a 1000 cc bike winning in a 600 class legit.i know ill get a shit load of flak but what do the pros win on not buells.ive never had the issues from other bikes that ive had with my buell.that being said i love my bike and will never get rid of it.if you buy the duc you will not be disapointed but we might.

Don't look at it like a 600cc class. It's a class of bike. They use a complex formula to decide who is in and who is out. It is as level a playing field as possible.

As far as getting what you want, I recommend exactly that. But one of the selling points for the Buell to me, was low maintenance. I prefer riding to working on them. I spend enough time and money working on my 66 mustang. I don't want to spend any time working on the motorcycle.

fair would have been putting it in a 1000 cc class.the only thing they proved was it takes an 1190 buell to compete with 600s.

Other than track days, does anyone actually use the higher top speed of imports? No.
Buell stands out from the crowd. It does not look or sound like any other machine out there.
Performance and handling are more than enough for street use and amateur track days. Unless you are racing for a huge purse, you are riding for fun.
I have more fun on my Buell than any other bike I have ridden. But then, I can count on one hand how many different bikes I have ridden.
Like Jeeps, "It's A Buell Thing. You Wouldn't Understand" applies to those who follow the crowd.
I did enough following when I was young. It only got me stoned and drunk. The path less traveled is so much nicer.

I don't know about you guys, but I feel like I'm constantly fixing things on my Buell. Since I bought this bike every 400 miles on the dot something seems to magically go wrong. But ride what you like and don't let anybody biased tell you differently. The 848 is an awesome bike. I would definitely give it a test ride and decide for myself whether its the right bike for me.

Its also not really fair to compare a company of 12 (buell) with a company of 25000 (yamaha). IIRC the 1125 was also very competitive last season.

I love my Buell. I will keep it for as long as I can ride. But I do love the looks of the new 848. Its just hard for me to justify both maintenance and insurance costs of the ducati's.
