With the stock ecm the fan ran everytime I shut the bike off, now with the emcspy race upload things run good but the fan dosen't run when I turn the bike off, is that also in the program?

Does it run while you're riding? Also, there's a fan diagnostic in the ECMSpy program under the "Diagnostics" tab.

Not sure what year your bike is, but according to the 2005 manual (no distinction made between XB9 or XB12), the following fan parameters are:

Key ON:
Fan on at 220° C (428° F)
Fan off at 180° C (356° F)

Key OFF:
Fan on at 170° C (338° F)
Fan off at 150° C (302° F)

Those specs are for the stock (non-race) ECM. Notice that if the race ECM fan specs are the same as the stock ECM, and assuming your engine gets hotter than 180 deg (F) while riding, the fan should continue to run at half speed after you shut the bike off until the temp dips below 150 deg. I don't remember if the fan variables are available for configuration in ECMSPY. I have an '04 XB12 with a race ECM (tuned but with nearly stock EEPROM settings), and the fan almost always runs after shutting off the bike after a 20-30 minute ride.

If your fan comes on while riding, I'd consider your fan good. If so, then maybe:

(1) your race ECM configuration (fan on/off parameters) is keeping the fan from running after shut off. Try a race map from another source.

(2) your engine temp sensor may be flaky (check ETS wire for insulation breaks or grounding somewhere. If you know how to use a volt/ohm meter, you can measure the ETS voltage and resistance and verify that it is functioning properly with varying temperature. See chapter 4 in the service manual.

Edit- If your ECM has been updated at the dealership or if you have a EBR ECM, the fan operation parameters may be different than what I posted above. -Tork [smirk]

The 2010 XB fan run time is by throttle as well as the temperature. This is a good Map for the Buells. If the engine is hot enough the fan should come on properly. No [program] properly done should interrupt the fans cooling cycle. Unless it was changed by the previous. If you reinstall the Stock ECM Map and all runs good for say 50 miles. You should go into the upload you just did, and do a diagnostics and see if you can make it work, or get another map. It's not worth the engine problems. The Fan with an older ECM-stock, will come on by temperature only. And should come on to cool the front/mostly rear cylinder so as to not warp the rear piston and head as soon as the key is off.Thats severe heat and Not all these downloads are good for the engines longevity. With more wanting horsepower I just fix them as they break. Be careful and keep the engine cooled.~Jimi
