Woo hoo another oil thread Along with tires and helmets we should make one big sticky!

I agree with the WHAT OIL DO I USE?? threads. It is always the same answers as the other 1,000,000 threads with the same question.

No mobil 1 wont be fine in the primary btw...

Would Mobil 1 be fine in the primary???
mobil 1 v-twin 20-50 fine in primary, lots of guys on here use it. i like motul synthese or bel-ray gearsaver #80 in primary myself. any JASO approved lube that is 20-50 or wet clutch trans fluid that is 20-50 is also excellent.

Royal purple in most of my stuff, but I also use Mobil 1 and don't have any issues with either.

I should just keep this in my copy/ paste: My cousin said it best, a Harley engineer designed the motor, a Harley engineer helped the make up of the oil...

Thanks for the input everyone.
And to those that commented on "another oil thread", I done a search for oil and nothing came up so I created this thread. Wasn't gonna scroll through hundreds of pages for another oil thread.

I switched from Amsoil to Mobil 1. Amsoil harder to get to than Mobil 1. Only reason for the switch. I'd buy Amsoil if it were readily available to me.

Plenty of places online, but go to amsoil website and look for independant dealers in your state. Might be one by you.

which brings up an interesting point of contention: between $2 a quart shit-mart house brand oil and $12 a quart royal purple or amsoil...show me documented verifiable proof of a single specific confirmed oil-related failure in a motorcycle engine or trans in the past 20 years. just a hunch but bet you can't. so prove me wrong.

Great point, even if someone's clutch wore out prematurely and a tech finds out you were using regular oil I'd bet they'd say "Well that's why" but it wouldn't be analyzed scientifically for definitive proof.

this is what i was getting at... for 1/4 the price you can change your oil so i change it twice as much as most. my oil stays cleaner and is always fresh. i will never buy an $8-$12 quart of oil. never.

I used Shell Rotella T6 5w40. Since I ride in subfreezing temperatures, I figure the lower viscosity is fine.

What do you guys think? I couldn't find any 20w50 full syn around here anyways...

you mean 15w40... and thats what i run.

there should be a whole wave of people to tell you that you are slowly killing your engine using that oil... on rpm at a time lol.

i just checked... you did mean 5w40.

i did not see a jaso rating available for it so do not put it in your tranny. not sure about in the main crankcase though...
