any of ya'll have ridden around w/ a leaky rear RB gasket? Mine isnt too terribly bad and I've taken the seat off a few times to wipe off the fan shroud best I can. I'm hoping I can ride it out for the rest of the season and fix it this winter. Is a broken fan the worst that can happen?

Mine had a small leak for about a year... Replaced it and it's leaking again now, been leaking now for about 4 months. As long as its a slow leak your okay.
You just don't want any of it getting on that back tire.

The extra weight from the oil/dirt on the fan might burn the motor up over a long period.
Come to think of it when I replaced the rocker box gaskets, I put a new fan on as it was making noises.

I have no plans on replacing my rocker box gaskets anytime soon unless the leak gets worse. But as is I don't see any drops dripping from anything. We shall see if the fan starts making noises.

It only took 2 years to start leaking again... Pretty ****** gaskets!

I personally would fix it. if your tire is flat, you put air in it , right? or don't fix it and try to beat rah7777777's record:D

thanks folks, I suppose it would have to be spitting an alarming amount of oil to get to the tire. I'll have to do some research before going gasket shopping. I would really hate to go to all the trouble just for it to start up again later on. I think Ive seem some up-graded gaskets on here that were orange-ish in color

mine has been leaking since i bought my bike in november, i haven't stopped riding long enough to fix it yet..(for the record thats 6 months):D

I let mine leak for awhile, then it let go kind of fast while I was on a short overnight trip with it. It made a big mess, and I had to really keep an eye on the oil level on the way home. It also did ruin my fan.

In hindsight I probably would have fixed it right away.

-17633-08A rocker cover $6.55
-17695-07A rocker cover inner x2 $1.75 ea

I'm not 100% sure if these are the correct part numbers but this is what I found when doing my research. You can take these numbers to a dealer and ask them, they are also the same parts as a sportster so they should be available at any HD dealer.
I bought a compleat gasket set but that cost about $60
Part number for that is Gasket kit #17036-91A $60
Or #17036-08 $58

I had this copied and pasted from some post awhile back. Maybe it will help.
