Anyone have one of these? I am looking into one to turn into a motard. Need something I don't care about as much as my buell, and can leave it outside without worrying about it. Advice?

I'm lookin for a tard too. Same reasons you are looking for one. Go to bikefinds.com . It is all craigslist and ebay for the upper 48 for dirt squirters and enduros. Lots of plated XR400, XR650, tards, and lots of them street plated too. :)

I'm on the list too! although I'm hoping to find an xb12 first, then I'll sell my xb9 for sumo cash. I'm in love with the 690 SMCs, but I think I'll care about one of those as much as my buell. I'm hoping to find an already tarded wr450, but I'll most likely just end up with a drz400sm. I've found 3 bikes I was ready to buy already, but all 3 have had title issues and haven't worked out.

Theres a whole parking lot of short busses right next to my work.
I'm looking to up the mileage a little more with the.......*ahem*.....TARD........and give some great fun to go with it. I may even consider a 250 of sorts. Nothin like 70mpg on your way to work. I love the Buell, but want to keep the miles off of it.
Or, get the ...*ahem*...TARD, and keep it around for backup/hooliganism, and see how many miles a 12R will actually go. The DRZ 400sm will go for a looooooong time with very little maintenance.

that's a huge factor in wanting a 2nd bike. I rarely have the desire to ride anything else, but my last bike had 22k miles put on it in the first year and a half, and if I tried the buell like that it wouldn't last me much more than 5 years. I'd love to still have a well running XB in my possession in 20-30 years, so I'm gonna find a supermoto to beat on. That's half the reason I'm hesitant to get anything other than a drz, or possibly the wr450, I don't want to deal with that high maintenance of some dirtbikes. Looking forward to going out regardless of how the sky looks. If it's looking gross I'll toss a rain jacket and rain pants in my bag and not give it a second thought. Even seeing a puddle that stretches across my entire lane leaves me in a little panic when I'm on the XB. It's always a rush to slow down as best I can to minimize the water that's about to get thrown at the back of my head.

Oh yeah, I want to ride up and down steps too :D

It was either 2k for a bike I will not baby and baby the 12s, or 6k for a 1125CR, and then stop babying my 12s.

you could check the manufacturer specs but i think the book says somewhere around 90 for my 450. The 426 may be a little less but the bigger determinant is what sprockets you are running. Do you want torque? or top speed?
I know with my 450 that the 03-06 plastics are different than 02. But when comparing parts for the wr you can often steal parts from different years on the yz's, except for fenders and front number plates because yz's obviously don't have headlights or taillights

The 02 was the last year they made the 426 and 03 was the first year for the 450 from what I have read. i would go with a 450 in my personal opinion

Big step up to the 450 from what I've found in my time searching around. I usually check out somewhere like bikez.com when I want to compare bike specs. I think the 2 bikes have pretty comparable weights, but the 450 has about 10 extra hp, and looks a whole lot cleaner.

Agreed all the way around. You are going to want the extra so I would go with a 450. They aren't even all that fast compared to buells and you might get bored too quickly with a 426. I got my 450 out for the first time today since I am riding tomorrow and was over-revving it terribly because I am used to the way my xb12 shifts.

Get an XR650R with a street kit on it.

I love the xr's and they are probably the most dependable bikes i have ever owned (5 between my cousin and I)but that 650 is HEAVY! Tons of low end torque but just downright heavy. Just something to think about if you are planning to whip around on a supermotard the xr will be least likely to feel like one.

Ive got a 01 YZ426F available. Its going on ebay soon. Youd have to do a stator conversion... I think? Not sure if a YZ stator can push lights.

High compression Weisco, cams, exhaust.

Id love a tard.
