I was supposed to cut grass, change the oil in the bolt and change the trans fluid. Then go for a nice ride.

Mower dies halfway through cutting grass. Whatever, Ill let it sit for a few while I work on the bike.

Okay. Trans fluid first. Open the cover and drain plug......out comes gear lube.

Whatever, dealer was probably full of idiots (came from a yamaha dealer). Drain and refill, not that big of a deal....time will tell.

Oil time. Crack drain bolt, strange no oil dripping down. Remove drain bolt.....no oil coming out. WTF? I check the level every few days.
I stick my finger in the drain hole and start to pull out tarish sludge oil. Id guess about 4 oz worth, followed by regular looking oil.

My bike has 5800 miles on it. I bought it with 46xx miles. This leads me to two ideas. Either they never changed the oil in this bikes life, or they tried to hide something by running that shit super thick oil, prehaps to cover up a leak or knock.

So I put the plug in and filled it, and in my anger I forgot to change the filter.

Oh yeah, dead battery too. My buddy left my bike on when he moved it. LOL.

if you havent started it no harm in filling before you change the filter it is a dry sump system.
the terans forumla plus from hd is alot like gear oil even smells like it.
Hope it all works out ok

No oil will sludge up that much in 6000 miles. There is something in there. If you've already run it like that for a 1000 miles, I would just change the oil in another 1000 miles and make sure it is fluid like regular oil.

Even the heaviest weight oil isn't so thick that it wouldn't flow out of the drain plug. I would guess that someone before you has just been burning off all their oil and adding more, but even then, caramelized oil like that would be hard to pull off in 6000 miles.

Sounds like water in your oil and primary. I would check your clutch cable boot, and oil cap and plug gaskets.

+1, I wouldnt worry about it. just change the fluids check all your gaskets and such run it for a few hundred miles to mix it up and change it again. This will get rid of all the old crap.
