Hi Folk's!(not sure whether this is posted in the correct location - sorry...)
Is someone able to enlighten me on the list of sensor’s on a XB12S Lightening.(2007 - list above) Meaning...have part number’s, brand/s of sensor’s? Cross-reference, from genuine part number/s, listing’s. I have done a bit of research to no avail... as generic supplier’s don’t seem to have anything listed online.
I have doubt’s, that the injection system(management system) is Delphi. As I have the genuine bible,(workshop manual) and there appear’s to be no reference to the management system as being a ‘Delphi.’ After removing the injector’s for servicing, they are not ‘Delphi’, brand, but are ‘Siemens’ injector’s.(the bike is unmolested, original) Unfortunately the TPS does not have a brand name stamped on the side of the unit, only a part number.
So, I have become deeply suspicious that the whole injection system and it’s component’s are made up of different manufacturer’s, to make an operative system. I do believe only Eric Buell, and HD know all the detail’s of the component’s used.
I have fired e-mail’s to both, Delphi in the UK, and USA. Only UK responded without a clear understanding of my tech question/s. I also tried EBR, with a response that wasn’t the answer to my question/s. So sadly, I am having to throw it out there to the tech, guy’s that may know the answer to my question’s, information relating to the above.
For those that want to know the fault/issue with the bike, it’s over fuelling heavily! Black smoke.(unburnt fuel) Fuel pump/regulator has been replaced. I brought the bike from a mechanic whom was unable to fix the fault.(suspect ECU)
There was no fault code, so I found a local guy that know’s a bit about Buell’s so I sent the ECU to him to have it flashed, and install the latest firmware in the unit. Luckily, he had another bike coming in for repair’s and tested the unit to make sure it was ok, before returning the unit to me.
I am going to have to go through a thorough sensor by sensor as the bible does not state procedure for testing individual sensor’s, other than certain parameter’s of sensor/s. If I could work out brand and detail’s of sensor, I could probably manage to get the testing information from the manufacturer.(Bosch, Siemens, Denso, Hitachi, NGK, NTK, etc)
Quality brand’s... prefer ‘not’ chinese product’s!
Anyway gremlin’s are hard to find in this techno world! I learnt my trade back when you could fix item’s with simple item’s....bloody electronic’s....need electronic’s and then there is no guarantee! Anyway....so if there’s someone out there that understand’s my gobble-d-gook... please let me know!
Also, question concerning the larger starter motor.(due to length) The oil line's - does anyone know whether the line's are tweeked, or replaced? Hyd engineer to make-up replacement's?(new line's?) Or other?
Thank’s, Gav.

Some of those parts are available at st.paul Harley. As for cross referencing, there was a list on here. It might be archived but searchable. As for who made what and didn't stamp their name on it, I'm not sure.

It is not a Buell thing. No MFG makes every part of their vehicle. Especially something as simple as sensors. Most late model bikes even share bigger parts like mirrors. These resources should help you out:

There are 2 starters available (same case size). Getting the more expensive higher Kv one is worth it. Do NOT use a starter for a Sportster, the nose cone lacks a seal that Buells use and it will spill primary oil all over at higher RPM's. The e-bay chinese ones are listed wrong as fitting (Electric Life or something like that?)

Thank's Cooter... Obviously a bike of nation's... would be nice to have a part's listing for the electronic's though... as it would be in everybody's interest's to have a simple list to relate to, when in the need of spare part's. I've saved the info as a word doc, and will edit it accordingly, in due course.
Concerning the starter, I've already imported 1 from the state's and fitted it. The main issue is the oil line's that go around the back of the starter. As they are mounted behind the front sproket cover, to the engine casing. And the replacement starter is 'longer' and intern making the oil line's jam hard against the back of the newer starter. So it's either...tweak them, or replace them? Due to that mounting point. Thought you guy's might be in the...know?
Thank's again, Gav

Hi Folk's! Sorry forgot to add...still looking for a part number/s(generic maybe?) for the (ETS)engine temperature sensor, this one is being a bit sneaky, tricky....for the old girl...
Also has anyone got the part number's for the idler bearing assembly, drive belt idler.(just the bearing number's)
Thank's, Gav

Hi Barrett, thank's for the info! You have got me thinking, since coolant temperature sensor's, and this sensor do the same thing, offer resistance reading's to the ECU, I think I know how to swap out the sensor, should there be issue's with purchasing the said sensor in the near future?
Anyway.....thank's again!

Along with the links I sent you for the parts-cross-reference thread, I meant to include this one:

https://www.rev-mo.com/product-page/ecm-interface

It will allow you to test each sensor very quickly and see even if any are bad at all.

It looks like you are prepared to shotgun a load of parts onto this bike so the link comes with a word of warning:

The most common amateur mechanic mistake is to try and 'fix' a poorly running Buell with a tune.

Hi Cooter, thank's for the info...like I've said... all 'experienced mechanic's/automotive engineer's' and talented individual's that are mechanically minded, understand the headache's of this technology!
I personally hate electronic's with a passion! I only purchase and operate simple basic equipment, vehicle's, tractor's, etc. Even my JD gator gave me a dose of the sh#ts! But I eventually found the design flaw, JD allowed!
Concerning the bike, I've already ordered all the sensor's as they're cheap, name brand's.(not noddle one's) The temperature sensor spec's are a little different in the bible from you're list. See below. Anyway, I will probably have to build a breakout box, as well. But will start to address the issue when the part's arrive from the state's. I think when it come's down to the wire...I'll try and arrange for the bike to be fine tuned by the dude that flashed the computer, since he's some sort of guru...but need to check the fuel pressure first, then attack the electronic's, etc!
Thank's Gav

If you know the ECU and fuel pressures are fine, have you actually checked the injectors to make sure they aren't completely hooped?

Mechanic you bought it from likely knew that the injectors are unobtanium and was either unwilling or unable to revive them.
