Hi guys
I'm here again for another question.
How are the main difference by the production year for the Xb9?
I know it' s a bike with short stroke.
Some year are to weak instead the the other?
There are year to avoid?
Thank you.

I am no expert, but i did read on some forums that the XB9 seems to be a good solid engine. I think the XB12 (maybe also XB9) got a redesigned crank pin and oil pump in 2007 or 08. Google and alot of info are available.

The '03 belt system should be upgraded to '04-up
All XB Buells got the Thunderstorm engine in '08 but they are all plenty reliable if treated with even the most basic of maintenance:angel:

Is it enough to use the upgraded version of the 2003 belt? Does not a XB9S -2003 have the Thunderstorm?

There is a superceded belt for '03, I don't think it's considered the "upgrade" to '04-up, pulleys and belt. Not mandatory, it doesn't seem to be a time bomb or anything, but was upgraded by the factory in '04 for a reason.

The Thunderstorm engine was put into all '08 and up XB's. It has the bigger crank pin and upgraded oil pump design. IMO the earlier engines are totally fine and take quite a bit of abuse. If it's worth it to you, get one. If not, no big.
