I received my Aluminum Jardine Slip On muffler from Dennis Kirk on Friday and over the weekend managed to install it. It wasn't as simple as I thought it would be but it can be done. I learned a couple of things, the original muffler bracket has 3 oil line running through it so removing it is not too easy. I read where removing the oil lines will create oil leaks which I didn't want. I opted to cut the lower section out of the bracket and remove it that way. This altered the bracket but didn't destroy it. It can be reused if I need to. I also learned that the black brackets that ship with the muffler or to reinstall the chin cowling and really have nothing to do with the installation of the muffler except for one small bracket that replaces the one I cut the section out of. The reinstallation of the chin cowling is a bit difficult since you now have to use a bolt as well as the screw and you will need to replace the two screws in the very front of the chin cowling..

It's best to have someone help you since you have to remove the kickstand. Put the retainer springs on before replacing the chin cowling. Total installation time was about 3 hours.

Turned out well and sounds killer. I seem to notice a little hp increase as well, or is that just my imagination?

Here's a photo of the final:

Yes, you will notice a HP increase, your going to notice an annoying dead spot/hicup just off idle and a LOT of popping/back-fire on decelleration too. Both problems are due to not tuning your ECM to the new exhaust. Either tune your ECM (ECMSPY, Tuner Pro etc.) or get a EBR Race ECM.

The original muffler was on the bike when I acquired it about a month ago. The previous owner had gutted it thought and it was extremely annoyingly loud. Very "blatty" sounding. It also backfired a lot. I'm hoping this will improve it somewhat. Notice the different brake pedal (shifter on the other side is the same). I got those from American Sport Bike along with the carbon fiber stuff. Thanks for the heads up on the ECM, I'll certainly look into it.

BTW, I see no way to repack the Jardine unless I remove the rivets...

Just so your clear, running any type of aftermarket muffler without re-tuning the bike or getting a Race ECM is a bad idea. Not only will you have the stumbles when you apply gas and an extremely LOUD back fire on decell, but you run the risk of running lean and could possibly hurt your engine.

YES, like most aftermarket mufflers, the rivets must be drilled out to re-pack the muffler. Make sure to go with a high quality packing when it's time. Stick with a rock wool or ceramic packing along with a heat sleave that wraps the core. If you do this, your re-packing time can go from 5-8000 to 20K+ to life.

Perhaps I should heed your suggestion about the EBR Race ECM. can someone post a link to the best place to buy one? Also, I use a Mac so what about the software or cable? With my luck, there is no Mac software, or at least, I've been unable to locate any online....

... I'm beginning to think I've opened Pandora's Box here...
