My bike is stalling while shifting from first to second at high rpm. I was wondering if this is a common problem. I just bought the bike and it was sitting for a while. I just put new gas in the tank hoping that would fix the problem. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

2009 XB9SX

It has a k&n filter and hawk exhaust.

When you go over about 3500 rpm and then shift into second it stalls, and won't start again until you turn the key on and off again.

Ok. I was thinking (IIRC) there was a point in time when the kickstands had some change to them but it was before 2009. I was thinking maybe it had to do with when you're shifting you are hitting the kickstand switch or something.

Not really sure....it doesn't stall if shifted at say 2900 rpm? And only from 1-2. What if you shift early into 2 then shift to 3 at like 4000 rpm?

Yeah if you shift at low rpm it doesn't stall. It only does it when going from first to second. Is there way to bypass the kick stand switch or remove it?

Check your bank angle sensor under the seat and make sure it is secure.

First Welcome to the Forum! Check the Exhaust Actuator up in the air box as well. You stated the Exhaust had been changed.
Did you have any problems before?
Has the bike been starting and Idling properly?
The bike could be redlined if you wind it out too far at the lower Rpms area.Doesn't sound like it is though. If you have a code poping up(Cel light) then use the data port to count the blinks. If you can ride it slower and shift normaly and it doesn't stall then the Code needs to be counted [if] one is coming on by shorting the pins 1 and 2 in your data port plug make sure you [read up] on that procedure before you do that.It is Something very small malfunctioning.Especially if the Engine is working correctly after the 2nd Gear is Enguaged. Check to see if turns up as a historic Code or a Currant Code .It might be as simple as a [Clutch switch] or Neutral switch. or wire to those areas.Don't know at this time cause some of these problems you just about have to be there testing the bike to catch it.OR run across it before. Might want to ride it slow and shift normally(easy)then work it up to the stalling .*Jimi
