Good Day Fellows,

I've read most of the posts in regard to the lubes. However, I may have missed those related to the transmission lubricant for the Lighting XB9SX.

I have two questions and I thank you in advance for advice.

1. The engine and transmission oil are mixing in this bike?
2. If not, does any of you have experience with Lucas Synthetic SAE 75W-140 Gear Oil?

I'm grateful for any comments.

Cheers.

Q 1. The engine oil is completely separate from the transmission oil. the XB engine is similar to a sportster based platform. The engine gets it's oil fed from the oil tank which is in the swing arm of the bike. The clutch and transmission use a separate sump for it's oil. The engine oil and transmission oil never mix.

Q 2. Factory Specs use 20w50 oil in both the engine and the primary case, but there are some of us that use a primary specific oil designed for WET CLUTCH operation. Some gear oils are not compatible with Wet Clutches or they can deteriorate the windings of the stator. With that said You can either run a good MOTORCYCLE synthetic 20w50 motor oil in the primary such as Amsoil or Redline OR you can run a primary specific oil Such as Redlines V-Twin Primary Oil (Which I am running right now) or something like Bel-Ray Gear Saver Transmission Oil (which I have also used with good results).

Hope this helps

Thank you theMelvster6. So to be clear, you advise that the Lucas 75W140 may deteriorate the windings of the stator? Is correctly understood?

20/50 oil in both boxes. If you live in a climate that only reaches 45-50 Fahrenheit then you can go thinner. No where in the manual does it specify or instruct to deviate from that.
