Painting the inside?

I like the orange plastics on my bike, but the airbox cover appears brown in the sunlight. I was thinking about painting the inside white so the orange would show better. I looked at several paint threads and it seems everyone is painting the outside of the plastics. Has anyone painted the inside? I was thinking about just spraybombing it, but I don't know how long it would last without sanding or primer.

I would think the problem with painting the inside of the transparent plastics would be the mold lines and stampings. They may be " highlighted " by painting from the inside.I assume your talking about valencia orange ?

take your air box off and just try to line the inside with tinfoil. Don't glue it just see how it looks. I have always wondered what it would look like.

Yeah, Valencia orange. The mold lines and stampings are already visible. Maybe some kind of water based paint that can be washed off easily. (Latex?)

Crumpled up tinfoil, interesting.

I painted my open airbox silver, which helped to lighten things up a bit. I didn't have any issues with my airbox cover being faded, I just always thought the transparent red was a few shades too dark for it's own good.

Raz, I've seen that, it kind of gave me the idea. I thought about just painting the airbox, but the holes on the side might detract from it. It's worth a shot, though.

I wonder if aluminum paint on the inside would work?
It would be permanent once applied, but I think I read somewhere that mirrors use aluminum as the reflective surface. Not sure if it was electrostatic applied or spray though.

I'll have to put it on the bike and see how it looks.

Ya, def sounded better on paper then in practice.

The painted inner airbox looks freakin awesome though..

cb750-can't find the thread now but there is another one they made a pattern of holes in the inner air box; that and a light color or reflective paint might be something to consider. Razman

I painted black the inside of my blue airbox cover and windscreen. I can't see any lines at the mold parting. I don't know about white, but the black makes the plastic look black until it gets in the sun. Then it looks dark blue. I just scuffed it real well with some red scotchbrite and used plastic paint. Good results.

it reminds my of metal flake.

maybe try it less wrinkled... flatten the foil to the inside to smooth out hte wrinkles to make them like creases. give it a reflective feel and maybe more a spiderweb type result... maybe.

It's not a very good picture. It looks better in person. I think I'll do it anyway, it'll only cost a couple bucks and is easily undone.
