Well I finally got my first buell. I dont know why it took so long but I finally got it. Its a 2001 m2 with 18k on it. I will try to get some pics up soon. The previous owner already had a vance&hines exhaust, k&n intake with the oval carbon fiber cover and a smoked integrated tail light. I am looking to do some general maintenance on it but all I could really find through the search is to do fluid changes. is there anything else I should check?

Check:
Belt and pulleys for any signs of wear.
Clutch cable and adjustment.
Suspension for leaks and fluid movement.
Charging system put a volt meter on it in DC mode and it should be above about 12-14 volts rev to see changes.
Brake fluid should be changed every two years, once a year in high humidity environments.
Brake lines for any signs of wear.
Tire for pressure and any signs of cracking or uneven wear.
Steering head bearings for any slop or knocking.
Plugs step up up iridiums if not already done.
Air filter.
Throttle free play.
Lube cables.
I'm sure there are some other things I'm forgetting but here is a good start.

I have never owned a tube-frame buell, so I cant be much help. although a fluid check/ change is never a bad idea. I would also check the air filter and oil filter (should do with oil change anyway.)

check out BuellMods.com they have a manual on the 2001 M2. you will probably have to sign up for an account to download it, but it is a nice site.

If you are going to do fluid changes make sure you change the primary oil and check the primary chain tension, also check the drive belt tension. Drive belt is suppose to be little looser than what the factory calls for, i think i added about half of an inch to what the manual called for. I would do a breather re route if it hasn't been done yet. When i got my M2 i took all the body work off, cleaned up all the oil and crud that got accumulated over the years, changed all the fluids, bled the brakes, did a proper breather re route. Previous owner just ran a hose down to the front of the motor so the oil and crap would just get blown all over the pipe and bottom of the motor. Changed plugs and wires, cleaned and re oiled the filter, adjusted all the cables. Gave the bike a little rattle can paint job, didn't like the blue, put everything back together and now it runs like a champ. It's a 00 with 31k miles on it.

Sweet bike! I had a 00 m2.One of the first
things I did was swap to an S1 tail(not a
straight swap),chain drive, and ASB clip-ons.
Man I miss that bike. Still have something for
the tubers.

Sweet bike. Is it just me or did the wind screen get lowered after the 1st pic?

Looks like a completely different one. The first pic is rounded, over the lite, and the others are coming to a point over it.

I did modify the windscreen to drop down over the headlight at a point. I looked into changing the headlight but I liked this option more and it only cost me a little bit of time.
