I know there are various discussions about which tank bags people do and don't like, but I was curious what you guys thought was the best way to mount the bags. The back strap has a few options between the hole in the undertray for the seat tab(xb9s)or wrapping it around where the shock meets the frame. What are you guys doing with the front straps?? I know the Buell bag has those plastic clips. Mine just has straps with plastic buckles. I can stick it under the top clamp but I wasn't sure if was ok being wedged in there. I thought it might wear on the strap fast or put a little resistance on the bars turning(although probably not). The only other option I saw was to wrap it all the way down around the frame by the front motor mount. Does anything down there get hot enough that it may start to melt the vinyl strap? There are some sharp edges down there as well. Maybe I'll try to find some rubber, like an old bmx grip to run the strap through.

I did see someone who said he put the mounting strap around the back of the gas cap thing, then put the airbox cover back on to hold it down, but I would hate to do any damage to the airbox. I won't be putting anything seriously heavy in it, but still.

Let me know if there are any obvious answers I'm missing. I'm excited to have a tank bag again but I really think I'm going to miss being able to use a magnetic bag.

was just thinkin the sam thing maiden. Just got a new tank bag and came up with the same ideas u had, unfortunately no additional ones. I think I'm actually going to end up puttin it on the tail. Id like to see pictures of where and how the buell bags mount. If u come up with something, post it up.

When I had a tank bag I had the front strap routed unter the top part of the triple tree, worked fine and never caused any problems.

Post a pic of your bag. I have one that been modified to be mounted by the air box bolts and it also has clips that can be used to quickly remove it. I don't have any pics on hand right now...

The buell bag came with three straps 2 short stubs front air box screws and a T for the back both air box screw to one quick clip.

sodl the bag awhile back all the pics i have of it.
My Gpr damper blocked one of the holes so i got rid of it.
The buell bag also had a recess for the X on the top of the cityx air box

That is exactly what I do. It works perfectly. You can see the mounting straps in this picture:

These aren't the greatest pics of it but if you look closely you can see the straps for the bag. The one closest to the seat has a loop in it that then t's to another piece of webbing and connects to the 2 rear airbox screws.

This is the one I've got:

It's a suzuki bag, but it's the same bag I had with my last bag, only non-magnetic, so I knew I loved the bag and just needed to figure out how I should mount it. It has my sweatshirt inside of it, but otherwise it's a soft bag so when there's nothing in it you can push it down and it'll stay flat and out of the way instead of always keeping it's shape whether it's full or not.

I tried the straps under the airbox around the gas cap and it actually felt pretty secure. The only issue is with how long the bag is it's hard to get it really snug on the airbox cover. I think I'm going to cut off the rear buckle, put a rectangle metal ring in it's place and then just use some velcro. That way it'll let the back of the bag be positioned about 2 inches further back since it wont be limited by that plastic buckle hitting the seat. I'll have to take some better pictures. This is pretty much what I'm going to try to do:
