different belt guards

the stockers do not please me.
and the CF ones are just a more expensive version of the stockers IMHO
running with out them is less good and it leaves unsightly mounting tabs exposed.
cutting the tabs off off is a point-of-no return and would be undesireable for saftey reasons, belt/pulley longevity and for warrranty issues

i have seen different belt guards, and would like to either make my own or get a set made. it doesn't have to be billet or aluminum or anything spiffy.
i'd be making mine out of some thicker gauge sheet metal.

the 1125's guards remind me of the 03 XB guards. effective at protecting the belt, but is bulky and gets in the way when removing/replacing the tire.

roadkillperformance doesn't even have a product image fro their $125 set-up. ... but they claim it saves 50g (just less than 2 ounces) of dead weight.
it is not only dead, but un-sprung!!! -gasp-

this parallels the fender eliminator, in that replacements are available at about/over a hundred dollars, but it could be a DIY project if you have some enough material and/or the right tools.


any body have blueprints/measurements/cardboard templates or can churn out a set for cheap?

anybody have ideas/requests for a design?

I would like an effective lower belt guard to keep debris out that looks better than the stock guard. Something lower profile than stock but still as effective at keeping crap out...

I am running this lower belt guard (no top one), it is a Rizoma, thru Trojan Horse. It only fits the Ss, or Uly Swing arm though.

solobuell makes some in fiberglass for 100+ Euros.

The rizoma one does look really nice, but it also looks completely ineffective.

If I were going to risk crap getting under my belt I would just go without a guard at all.

The '05- Rizoma guard is most likely a stamped piece, the other lower guard that only fits the Ss, Uly is machined aluminum. Cost the same though..?..

100 euros!!! I think just about any guy with a pair of duck bill crimps could break that out in about 5 minutes.. but wait it doesnt have Rizoma stamped on it

As promised, here is a prototype guard for the 1125's. This was the first one I made and fortunately my buddy just bought one so I now have something to test fit easily on. It came out very close and I only need a make a few minor changes, you can see one obvious change is that it needs to butt up with the mud guard.
Keep in mind it does not have to look like this. I just copied the stock style, it doesn't have to have the bend on the end of it. Let me know your opinions and any changes you might want to see. These will also be customizable just the XB guards I make.

hey did you move any further on this prototype? I laid my bike down and if i am going to replace stuff im going different.

Belt guards are for keeping hands and clothing out of it. The guards do not protect the belt. In fact if a rock did get pulled up in there it would more than likely stay wedge and ruin the belt and lock things up. The belt guards are just like chain guards. They guard us from getting hurt.

Yes you could have warranty issues if you remove it but who the hell honors a Buell warranty?

I got 38,000 miles on my original belt. I took the guards off 5 years ago.

^^^agreed^^^ I've been riding Harley's 25 years. The only belt I lost was on a Night train with the belt guard on. You could see the marks where it was stuck between the guard and belt it beat back and forth and finally snapped the belt....I hated the fact you couldn't see the left side of the wheel on an 1125r over 1,000 miles no belt guard no problems and look way better IMO.....
