Anyone done it, I have a very good local guy that powder coats and thought it would look good with a nice fresh coat on it?

it looks good, what color and are you gonna leave the tips so you can polish them or what?

Powder coat a race pipe would be a stupid idea!!! It would last about a week and then start pealing at the ends by the second week it would would be half gone. This is if you ride every day and at summer temps. Powder coating is not made for heat. I never did it. I asked my powder coater to do it for me and he said NO! he did it on his pipes turned out bad. True story.

All powder coating is, is a plastic. Plastic and heat dont mix., it will shrink. I just powder coated my front and rear foot pegs, along with my rear brake peddle and shifter peddle and linkage all black to match the frame. I have no idea why HD cut costs so bad on Buell that they left siver pedals on even the all black bikes. Well mines not all black but only because of my plastics now. Sorry to hijack the thread

Powdercooat...NOOOO Ceramic-chrome...YESSS

Lots of exhausts, headers, turbos and misc. hi-heat apps. are done with this process.. various sheens are also available. Local shops usually charge 75-100 including blasting and prep for an XB sized muffler.

There's a new silicone based powder coat available. Eastwood sells it. Caswell Plating also sells it for about 1/4 the cost. I just did a Firebolt muffler after the ceramic coating rusted through. The silicone powder coat is supposed to be good for 1000 degrees. I used the satin black & it looks good. It seems to me that this could be a few degrees shy for a headpipe, though the color of my pipe indicates about 800 degrees. Would it work? Dunno.

You are right I had no idea I just did a search at powderbuythepound.com and they had like 5 diff High Temp Powder coats here is one. And they showed it on a picture of a set of headers.

Ceramic coat the pipe, I had an old pipe powder coated and after 5 miles the heat melted half the coating. note it was a modified pipe and the spot that melted had direct heat hitting it but, I had the same pipe ceramic coated and not one hint of any discoloration or fatigue.

If you look at the pipe in this picture you can see how it looks brown that is burnt powder coat.

Thanks for all the info, I may look into having it ceramic coated. I have no idea if there is anyone local to me that does coating, I will have to do some research.

Ceramic cost the same as powder coating just so you know, price may very a little but I payed $40 for my pipe to be ceramic coated
