Front Axel Sliders Too Big?

Bought some sliders the other day (Dark Horse) and the front right side is too big for bike. I have a 03 XB9R. It is just slightly too large. Starts to fit, but doesnt set all the way. The axel has a slight roll edge on it that is why it starts to fit but then stops. I dont want to beat it in because I would never get it off when needed. What is the best way to make them fit? Grind the resessed part down a little? They were bought used from a guy on here, so I can't just return them to ASB.

Did you try switching sides, I think you are trying to put the right side on the left. The clutch side of the axle has a bigger opening try that.

Hold them up next to each other, see if there is a difference in diameter.

@oh9Bolt-The clutch side is much bigger on sliders and bike, and that was not the case. They were on their correct sides. The brake side is the only side that doesn't fit.

@50dro-The rod is correct length, the part of the slider that doesn't fit is the threaded part that fits into the axel. Too large of diameter on slider, or too small diameter inside axel.

@Livers-The diameter starts out correct on axel, but the axel diameter gets smaller towards the center.

Tried it out on my buddies 09 XB12R and it fits perfect. His axel is the same diameter the whole way through. I will try to snap a pic tonight when I get home and put it up tomorrow.

The guy I bought them from said they came off of a 06 XB12SS, and he said they would fit. I guess he was wrong. Well I guess I am stuck with them now, how to fix them is still the question...

All mine fit across all the years. The difference must be small? Sounds like you'd have to machine them down to fit or just buy a set that fits :D

The difference is very small. I work in a wood shop, and will try sanding it down with some 40-50 grit paper, and work back up to polish/smooth it out after it fits I guess. If not, I will take the grinder to it. I would have bought yours, but am real short on cash flow right now. I got both sets, loctite, and a few EBR decals shipped to my door for 70 bucks. But I am getting a buddy to buy a set from you after he saw mine.

Awesome! Thanks...I was just messing with you. Hope the sanding gets you there. It should. Keep us posted!

are you sure it is for teh front and not the rear?
try to fit it in the brake side of the rear axle.

Im sure of it nilla. Thread All rod is different size as well, so it can't be used in the rear. Rear thread all is larger diameter than front.

I was going to suggest sending them back and getting a set from 50-dro... Just my opinion.

Thanks agfish18! He should be able to get them to work, otherwise I'll be ready to send him a replacement set! :D

I know I haven't seen any pics, but I'd be willing to bet with a file, they could have modified to fit in less time than it took to type half of this thread.. At least that's what I'd try doing..

I can't send them back, I bought them used from a member here who sold his bike. I wish I would have just bought a set from 50 now though.... I may give this front set to a buddy and just hit 50 up for a new front set. The rear spool set are installed and look great.

i had a similar problem with some that i bough from precision engineering. the first front set i go the right side did not fit. they sent me the right one out but they acted like there is a very slight difference between years. i dont see any reason why you wouldnt be able to file or sand them down.

Yeah I thought so too. Now I just have to get my bike back from my buddy and make it fit. I lent him my XB9 and I have his XB12 doing a few mods for him and a service, that way he still had a ride to work.
