Ok so I just bought my first bike and had it delivered today but..... above 3000rpms the bike just mis fires and looses power and jerks around ( it runs somewhat ok a light throttle low rpms) also it'll idle fine for a while then sometimes it just dies. I just got the bike so I'm still very new to buells but I changed the oil spark plugs, drained the old gas, ran some injector cleaner with the new gas, checked all fuses lines and connections. Everything looks fine. The person who owned it before me put a buell race muffler and the case breather mod on but I don't know if they ever messed with the computer. So here's my questions:

Can just those two mods cause it to run that rough?
How can I tell if I have a race ecm or one you can flash with spy?
There's a decent but not real large dent in the muffler , could that cause any problems?
And I noticed the servo wire for the exhaust was not hooked up, and could not find a place to hook it...do those mufflers not hook up to those? Do they have an actuator or whatever in them? And could that cause a problem if they do?

BTW its an 04 xb12r oh and no cels come on while riding or at idle

on most race cans there is a dent at the front on the bottom, shouldn't hurt it

ecm you could look at if it's race it'll say race use only, race can doesn't use a servo, know if the filter is a k&n or some other high flow? from what I've seen upgrading can cause it to run like crap without changing the map

anyone else's thoughts? correct me if I'm wrong

Hmm well I'm not sure about the air filter , I believe k&ns are Orange right? This one looks stock but ill check again in the morning and I need to look around and find out where the ecm is ...unless you can just tell me lol ...I know cars inside and out but I'm newish to bikes and the buell is a whole new world to me

well I woke up late and didnt get to look at it but I just ordered a spy cable and it should be here tomorrow, hopefully a tps reset and a race map will clear it up.

TPS reset would be the first thing I'd do, after reading any stored trouble codes.

Did bike sit for a long time? I had mine stored for a few years without a fuel stabilizer and it fucked up my fuel pump.

im in maryland and just had it delivered from missouri all i know is its been at the dealer for almost 2 months i dont know its history before that

the r ecms are under the front fairing
and the k&n are a reddish pink because of the oil, but without oil they might be white-ish

hm ok ill check when im home, im pretty sure it was a dark redish purple color almost like a deep maroon

That'll be k&n and itprobably means you just need the tune cause your system flows too freely

Did your cable come with ecm spy and the maps?

Alright so I checked it out and its deff a stock ecm and k&n intake , the cable should be here tomorrow and yes it comes with maps and I already have mega log and spy so tomorrow will hopefully be the day !! Btw I took her down the road and for about two mins she ran perfect...I was seriously impressed with the comfort and handling ..I'm going to have sooo much fun after its tuned Haha

just remember to load the race eeprom, save the maps off the race eeprom, then fetch your eeprom, then load the race maps you saved and burn it

ok so first off sorry for making a second thread the other day, (Im a mod on an rsx forum and I know better than to do that) but I freaked out cause I was in such a hurry to get the bike going but nothing worked out right anyway. So Im going to stick with this one and let the other fall down through the threads...

Now today I woke up and realized that the one thing I havent tried (even tho wolf told me to) is loading the stock map he gave me. so I loaded it up, started up shut off, added 30 units of fuel to the whole map front and rear, started up...idled perfect at 5.1% took it out for a ride and its running better than it has since I got it. At least good enough that tomorrow (monday) im going to get temp tags so once I find a harley dealer that isnt backed up I can go tune it with them, hopefully, not sure how there going to be with it being a stock - race ecm. Going back to how I said its running good...still cant go full throttle and it does break up in spots but since someone told me how to fix my datalogging (stupid vista) I should be able to clear it up tomorrow, it still dies completely and falls on its face so Im assuming its flooding it? Ideas? the guide says if it revs out easy but has now power its lean so im going to assume its fat and back some out then go datalog.
Keep ya guys posted, thanks for all the advice and help so far, especially wolf, it would still be sitting in the garage with out your help :)[up]

well harley just told me they wont touch the bike unless I buy a race ecm…uhg…Ive looked around and cant seem to find one for sale, just incase I cant tune it out…anyone know of one for sale?

could they maybe still do a diagnostic on it to see if it's something other than the map causing it?

I'm still confused as to why my map doesn't work for you even though you're bike is set up the same as mine

if you could record a sound clip or video clip so we can hear what's going on as you go through the RPMs, maybe someone's had the same problem and they just need to hear it, I should have my bike back together tonight so maybe I can see if the maps aren't copying correctly or something like that

Hah. I don't know about master. Everything I learned I learned from Mike (xopti). He's the real master here.

Nevertheless, I can help you do what I know how to do, if you'd like!

other here's his other thread, it would idle for a few seconds then die out. so I had him load the race map, didn't work right, tried a different one, still didn't work

I think he went back to the stock map I sent him and he changed some of the fuel values so it wouldn't die but from what I understand it drops in power when he hits the 3k range in rpms

crome - sound familiar?

Get Tunerpr Rt installed with the files. then follow instructions. go in small steps and it will make you a happy man.

One thing I've noticed here is that tuners jump to the ecr before they've finished checking basics.

Intake and exhaust are tight?

Spark plug cables good and not touching engine?

See daylight through air filter?

Set the ECM back to stone stock?

Then do the tps.

Avoid a dealer that says you must buy a race ecm.

What is the bike like at 4500 rpm? That's where it wants to be.
