I have a 2009 1125r since I have bought the bike on hot days and once bike is warmed up when I turn it off for a few then go to start again there is mot enough juice to start the bike at which time have to jump it. I have had it to Harley 5 times and they tell me everything works just fine pretty fed up with them any ideas?

just had the same problem with my daytona 675.

would crank up fine. rode it, parked it and it would barely start. sometimes not at all.

turned out the regulator/rectifier was going bad and in advertently took out the battery with it due to shoddy charging during its death.

had to change the R/R to figure out the battery was dead too though. replaced the R/R and automatically went from 13.3v to 14.3v at idle...meaning stronger charge. but the friggin starting problem was still there. ANDDDD the damn battery would pass load tests...dont be fooled tho..the battery was toast and could not suffiently take a charge.

replaced the battery and it cranks strong. everytime. even in 90 degree weather. check it out, sounds like the same problem.

i bought this kit, its great. click on the first link on the top left.

any old battery will do after that.

good luck man, i feel your pain.

Ok first you need to monitor the charging volts while riding.
If it's not 13 or more u have a charging issue .
If it's is 13+ then your battery is weak.

When I'm going it is usually at 13 or a little more once I stop at a light it drops down below 13 til I get going again

How low does it get?
Sounds like you may have a stator getting weak.
You can try having the battery load tested.
I haven't checked but I know the Xb bat is around 200 cca
If the cca is ok u have 2 options disconnect the recall relay so your using all the stator.
Fight with hd to get them to fix it or pull the stator and send it to custom rewind and fix it yourself.

its easy to test your stator. unplug it from the RR and check the voltage across the 3 phases of the plug coming from the stator with the bike running. if all 3 phases (1-2, 2-3, 1-3) are around the same ur stator is good. on my daytona is was ~20v at idle and ~75v at 4k. as stated my battery passed a load test and was still the cause of my starting problems. can you borrow someones battery to see if your problems persist?

i dont think his cca mean anything here as the problem only happens when the bike is warm and gives him no problems from a fresh start...just like my daytona.

Somthing about the gas getting hot these bike want to vapor lock....But if you have a DVOM testing the stator out put is easy check it on A/c volts.
the connector is easy to get at under the seat left side of the air box has three yellow wires.

yup any old multi meter will do. put it to AC volts as RT said, disconnect the stator plug, fire the bike up and see what you read. using the two prongs just touch the 3 phases in the order i described above and make a note of the reading.

You can also do a continuity test between each prong and the ground bolt on the frame. All 3 should be open or your stator is bad.

Lastly, you can do an OHMs test on the same 3 phases I described (1-3, 1-2, 2-3). You should get very little resistance between the 3 phases.

if all these tests pan out your stator is fine and I would look elsewhere. just because you change your battery and it cranks fine does not mean you problem is fixed however. I would really check out the R/R as well to be honest before dropping coin on a new battery. that should be the last thing you buy, like i did. make sure your bike can correctly charge it before you buy it.

when i stop it has gotten as low as 12.3 volts but as soon as i take off it goes right back up to around 12.9 13 volts i have had the bike to the dealership cause its still under warranty. its been there 5 times and the only thing that they have found is a bad charging relay. other than that they tell me everytyhing is working properly on the charging system and there is nothing wrong with it. all the recallls have been done on the bike.

Mine has started this but so far I have been able to get it started- Very hard starting tho. Seems I remember seeing 13+ at idle..
@peedy667- how did this turn out? get resolved?
Rob- Isn't the 2008 stator suppose to be better?

The 2008 stator last longer doesn't over heat.
But produces less power.

YOu may just want to disconect the recall harness.
That 3 pin connector we told you to test.
un hook the relay and hook it back directly to the voltage regulator.
it will lwet the bike charge hardeer when your sitting at a light with the fans running

hey guys the problem has been solved after several visits to the dealership. turns out it was a bad battery that they put in a year ago. ever since they replaced that it has been running great and have had no problems with it.

hope it doesnt die again. batteries dont just go bad unless they arent used or being properly charged during use. sure mine was "bad"...but because my regulator was dying a slow death.

yeah they ended up replacing the stator and charging relay as well and before i got the bike the regulator was replaced only good thing about all this is that the bike is still under warrenty

Glad you figured it out.

Cold in CCA is just the measurement, the actual ambient temperature makes no difference.

Any starting issue, check the CCA first.

I was telling RT on another thread...I had a simmilar issue and after the yuck-yucks at Half Dead replaced the charging system, the ecm and the dash, they found the main ground loose at the block or the chassis. It was difficult to get them to admit the issue, but after having it a month, they did finally get it right. Ya know third time is a charm, no fourth, no fifth...
