Ok so i just picked up this D&D and it is a great pipe but I dont want a chin fairing mounted and the mounts for it on the pipe are hideous and I want to just cut them off. These are not any mounts that mount the pipe to the bike, these are simply just mounts to hold the chin fairing on. Notice my cut lines in the diagram. What do you think? Do you guys foresee any problems?

that plate also dubbles as a jacking point.

good point...didnt think about that but im not too concerned. i think i would rather have it chopped off. good input! anyone else?

Ive thought about doing that to mine as well! Let me know how it turns out.

I run the d and d with the fairing but I thought about that as well. I don't see any mechanical isssues cuz the piece hanging down from the head pipe is just to support the plate. Only problem would be if you decided to sell it on down the road and someone wanted to run the chin piece.

Exactly what i was thinking...but this could possibly be a permanent thing.

I think it will look great with the chin spoiler brackets cut off, try to cut off the plate/brackets in one piece that way it could be welded back on easily in the future if desired.

Relax dude. It's only been 30 minutes since your last post in this thread.

I will post as many times as i want and bump the thread as many times as i want. Thanks though!

As for everyone else thanks for the great feedback. I have to take all of those things into consideration but I think I am gonna end up cutting it anyways. [up]

Chop it off! You will lose the jacking point, but you'll lose that with half of the aftermarket exhausts out there anyway. I'd just chop it all off in one big piece and grind the exhausts smooth. Check out batman's pictures, his pipe isn't a D&D but it'll give you an idea of what yours will look like without the plate and fairing since his is a similar style...

Keep in mind you will be painting that bad boy all the time unless you get it ceramic coated.........

josh that is exactly the look i was going for. thanks for the picture. he even has a tail lift and kind of the same color scheme.

The previous owner put fresh ceramic coat on it so it is good to go!

So your goiing to cut it up and it has ceramic on it already????? How do you plan to stop rust at the points where you cut the plate loose and grind down the welds?

I am going to do as little as possible to mess up the finish. Probably not a ton of grinding but I am probably just going to touch up with high temp header enamel. I painted the header on one of my dirtbikes and it is holding up surprisingly well.

Have you considered making your own like Batman did? To be honest there is nothing special about D&D .......you will still have to either tune your bike or buy a pre programed ECM. You could efectivly buy 2 used Jardin's and put them side by side and have a repackable D&D. In the end you will spend just as much but it will look diffrent and be pretty much what you want anyways. If any rust gets under that ceramic its going to reek havoc on the muffler and you wont see it till its too late.

I dont have the skills to make my own, although i wish i did. I have a friend that is local and he is going to help me map my ecm because he already mapped his bike since he has a d&d. One reason i went with d&d is so that i don't have to repack it every 3000-5000mi. I am going to have to take much caution when touching up the spots that get cut and grinded. I'm concerned with the rust factor but I never ride in the rain and have only gotten caught in a light drizzle once in the past year so that should help to cut down the likeliness that it will begin to rust.

Rust does not need rain to show its ugly head.....the air you breath has moisture in it, but as long as you understand what you are doing then go for it. Post some pics when your done.
