hello all just got my first buell it's a 2001 m2 and i had a few questions about it the main thing is the speedo dose not work, and ideas where to start with that. and is there anything i need to look in to on the bike? seems to have a aftermarket pipe but other than that i know nothing about this bike. thanks for any help..

That generation (99-02) tuber has an electronic speedometer. There is a sensor on the engine that can go bad. I have read that some can be saved by unbolting the sensor and cleaning the accumulated gunk off the end of it. Be sure to pick up a manual for it if you haven't already.

Probably a bad sensor. A few indicators to look for, If the speedometer is non-responsive but your trip/odometer are still working.....it's probably a bad speedo guage. If all 3 are non-responsive, it indicates a bad VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) located on the right side of the transmission case, just behind the starter. I replaced mine yesterday ($61.00 from HD). I hope this helps. Good luck .

The gauge do not work at all and the trip dose not go up and the miles do not change so is that the gauge. right?

quoted from above,
If all 3 are non-responsive, it indicates a bad VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) located on the right side of the transmission case, just behind the starter.

had very few probs with mine except blew a seal on the rear shock and my tire ate my fender because of the lack of rear suspension on the ride home
