Can't get my idle adjustment to 0%?!?!?

I am trying to do a TPS reset and can not drop my idle below 2.7%. The butterfly is free and clear, throttle body clean, the idle screw is not touching the tab at all and butterfly is closed tight?!?!

Bad TPS sensor? Anyone run into this before?
 
thats why you have to do a tps reset. if when closed it returns to zero resetting it to zero does nothing. get it?
 
Seriously? So I am off by 2.7% That makes perfect sense but the tuning guide says to back it down to O%. So theoretically if you could back it down to 0% you may not need a reset?
 
right, if the throttle plate is closed fully and it says 0% doing a tps reset accomplishes nothing. the tps reset will reset the sensor to zero where ever it is when you click the button. i.e. if you hold it half throttle and reset to zero the ecu will think the throttle is closed at half throttle, its all to provide a reference point. the tps sensor will drift and lose its reference point over time, this is the purpose of doing a tps reset. if yours is off by nearly 3% you should feel a noticeable improvement in throttle response and smoothness.

on a related note i think its funny that people always say you need to do a tps reset after changing the exhaust or doing a breather reroute, this has no affect on the position of the throttle plate or where the sensor thinks it is.
 
I did intake, exhaust and race ecm... I was told when ecm is swapped you should do it. I was way off obviously... doesnt want to idle right now... gonna bump it up a bit and test ride.. Thanks man!
 
the ecm swap makes sense because that is what converts the signal from the tps to a position and every sensor will be a little different.
 
Well she runs now... not great not horrible... some decel pops and the idle is all over the place but its a start.
 
I had some idle problems a while back from a mapping attempt gone awry using the incorrect method video.

Sounds like a lot of trouble, but you might want to take the airbox off when you're adjusting. My cable binded up and stripped when it got snagged on one of the head bolts.

If the screw is not touching the tab and the voltage is not going down anymore, rotate the throttle closed gently. You may notice a small decrease/flicker in numbers. When you open the throttle after that, you should feel it stick very slightly. Close it again and try to duplicate that slight stick a few time. That slightly stuck close should be absolute closure. Reset the TPS by clicking the button and the do the other steps [increase the idle/ start the bike/ let it warm then adjust] per Dave's video.

Heres an explanation/guide by Al of ASB that shed a little light on the reset for me.
 
Funny you say that... My cable was getting bound up and I was trying to force it. This is on my X1 so I didnt need to take off my airbox but I did have to remove the tank. The way the idle control cable was routed was retarded... I re-routed it and wd-40d the idle screw. Easy to adjust now. Did a tps reset cold and again when warm. I bought a used race ecm and think it had been tuned a little maybe.. just not for my bike. I will play with it more tomorrow. Compare the maps on it to known race maps to see if its been messed with. Runs pretty damned decent just needs some cleaning up. Time to learn how to tune!
