Just curious if anyone has done there own helmet painting/customising. I have a helmet now that has a custom airbrush design, but its an afx helmet and its started to fall apart. The extra helmet we have is one of the nice harley helmets with the built in sun visor, but it says harely all over it. I want to paint it flat black. So if any of you know a good how too link or something like that, or can share some tips it would be appreciated. I dont think it would be that hard, my main concern is trying to get the graphics/stickers off.

Thanks.

Not sure what the effect of the paint is on helmet material as far as structural integrity, but I wouldn't think it would be a big deal. I was going to get mine airbrushed at first but the price I was quoted was real expensive with air brushing, clear coat. They included prep, which I think was necessary on a flat black helmet.
So I just went crazy with paint reflective vinyl and my St. Christopher medal.

There's one or two guys on here that paint helmets.

Thanks, I like to be more visible at night and for the cost of a package of vinyl, I still got off about $220 cheaper than they wanted to charge me for the paint job. The paint would have cost more than the helmet. For the combined price I could have just went for the Shoei that was out of my price range to begin with.
The effectiveness of vinyl will run out long after, I have to get a new helmet anyway.

I did mine in flat black. It was from a friend, and it was super ugly with "Joker" graphics on it with ugly red and blue. i sanded it up with fine sand paper with my sander. Then I taped off the parts I didn't want flat black and spray canned a few coats. I know its not super professional, but it turned out great. and lasted really well. I actually just sold it to a friend. [up]

It's one of those paradoxes: painting voids warranty, every sponsored rider has a painted helmet.

Google it. There are some really good sites out there.

Here's my custom painted ARAI. This is a painting, NOT airbrushing. The pics don't do it justice. Done by Igor's customs Virginia Beach, Va
