I am cranking my 03 XB9R & it fires up fine, front head light on like it should be. The engine light comes on, I put it in gear & the front headlight goes out, I put it back in neutral & the light comes back on. Its day time so I figure I will fix it later. Put it in gear & go to let the clutch out & engine shuts down. I can put it in neutral & let clutch out & it runs fine it only shuts down when its in gear & you try to take off by letting the clutch out. Any idea's. I am in the process of making a data link cable for diagnostics with my laptop but this problem hapened today & worried about the ride to work in the morning.

The previous owner has installed a zenon headlight & im trying to figure out the wiring he did & he also took the front turn signals out but question is would this have anything to do with the clutch handle problem I am having?

Hey try and unplug your netrual safety switch on the kick stand. See is your bike "THINKS" that the kickstand is down when it isnt IE the switch is bad

Damn I didnt even think about that man. I feel like a real dum azz now. Im guna go try that now. Yesterday I noticed it had a engine light come on while riding but didnt hesitate or cut power. I tried to download the ecm spy softwarebut my laptop has windows 7 & not sure why but it wont run after I installed it. it says Im missing the mono dll. file even after I downloaded it. Im going to try to do it on my work laptop & see, it has XP on it.
BRB, going to try the kick stand sensor.

Haha alright man. I didn't read far into those threads I linked to. I just did a Loogle search for the info.

I believe the earlier models with the kickstand sensor had quite a few issues. To the point that they got rid of it.
It is also my understanding that you regain more of your usable power in 1st and 2nd with that sensor gone.

Best of luck and let us know!

That was it. Does fine now. To do away with the sensor what do you do just bypass it or just leave it unplugged. Im going to make a wire to plug in so I can check blink codes. Thanks for you guys help. The service manual isnt the easiest to follow. Of course Im used to working on big deisle engines. lol

deisle engines

Used to working on em but not spelling them?! hah Im kidding seriously it is diesel tho!

I honestly don't know how to bypass I think you just need to ground it but that could be the exact opposite. In grounding it could cause the problem!
Do a Loogle search and search and see what you find!

Best of luck and you gotta LOVE an easy Fix!!!

Neither would affect your ecm.
However with that first thread I want recommendibg you bypass the clutch. I wouldn't recommend that at all. That could lead to a very big accidental mishap!

As in starting it in gear?

Bingo.

Also for the kickstand, just cut the wires before the plug and connect them together. That's how I did it on my Blast, but I will admit I have never done this on my XB.
