New 99 X1 owner has mods

Whats up guys,

I got a 99 x1 from a buddy a few weeks ago. It needs some attention from what i have learned by doing some research. It's funny i actually had a guy stop by just becuase he had heard it then seen it in my drive way. He had some good advice about tuning and even e mailed me some info. So on to some issues im having, it feels like it doesnt have the power it should. I know it has been bored thirty over and the top end has been done with some performance heads. It has a exhuast that was a 1200 $ option and it is loud. Its weak though for the things that have been done. i have hit it hard in first and not even got the tire to try and come up. I have good riding experiance, 10 or so years. I tried it all power no clutch. it just doesnt seem right. Under the seet is a black box. some type of proccesor that says for race use only. I dont have a book on this bike yet but have one ordered. If any one has any advice it would be cool. I also have an 03 cobra and am on svtperformance.com with the same screen name for anyone that has any other toys. I run it every now and then so hit me up. Im in houston.

I have an 00 X1 and an 09 XB 12SS. My X1 has a force pipe, K&N, and a race ECM like you have. It has no other performance mods but it does need tuned, mainly low RPM part throttle issues. It is very lazy below 3000 RPMs and then come on hard all the way to the red line. On the X1 if you roll along at 3500 RPM in first gear and hit the throttle wide open, NO clutch dump, and hold it wide open it will cartwheel the bike. If you keep the front end down in first and shift it hard into second at about 6500 or above it will lift thE tire about a foot off the ground then set it down softly. For comparison when I got my 09 it had a mod done to the muffler and that was it. This bike was similar to what you are describing. It would barly get the front end off the ground with no clutch in first gear. Hell i could clutch bump it at 5000 RPM in second gear and it would only get the tire iff the ground mybe 6 inches. Then I remapped the ECM with tuner pro and now it is similar to my X1. For example the way I like to ride a wheelie is to run along at 3500 RPM in second gear then clutch it and rev the mother to about 4500 RPM and dump the clutch. This will bring the front end up enough that I can ride it out until I hit the rev limiter with the front tire in the air, which is about 85 MPH. I hope this helps. The moral of the story, you need to get ecmspy or tuner pro and remap the ECM.

I rode a 05 GSXR 600 then a 1000 for a while and from what i remember my 600 would come up no problem dumping the trottle at 3k in first and rolling back on it would bring the front up with no problem then shifting to second as it came up enabled me to keep it up for a while. This X1 though just doesnt want to come up. I rode a buddies 98 lightning years ago and it would stand up without a problem. Of course the bike was new then. I have been doing alot of research on tuning issues with these bikes. Does anyone have a power commander on there bike? How well does it work? is tuning pretty easy? I also laid this thing down the other day. Kinda stupid on my part but it hit the ground soft and i was under ten mph. I bent the left handle bar and shaved the groves that it fits in off. as well as the shifter. I have searched for new handle bars but cant find the stock one thats on it. I also have half of an aftermarket kit for the shifter but its missing the spacer for the shifter/peg part and one other peice from the looks of it. I found the set on e bay for 220 but it doesnt have the manufactures name on it so no telling if i will be able to use it or just buy new. back to tuning though the race ecm is there a specific program to tune it with. i will post the info this guy gave me and maybe one of you will know if i can use it with the race ecm.
