I have a 98 s1w and would like to change the wheels. do the Wheels from the newer buells fit?

Yes, you can swap to later wheels, BUT you will have to swap to 03-04 forks and triple OR... come up with an adapter to mount the XB front caliper to the older forks.

Also for the rear you need to make wheel spacers/reducers. They are simple lathe parts giving the wheel the correct spacing/centering, and also reducing the XB 30mm bearing to fit the tuber 25mm axle.

this is my bike i have done the swap on (03 forks, 03 Triple, Rear spacers)

Perfect! Thanks for the info pur pony. Great looking bike. In the process of doing a custom tail on my s1w

Hay I am also looking to swop out wheels. I have a m2 is it possible? If I had to change out the forks. Will the triple tree bolt on?

Grays-

You will need front forks and a matching triple... 03-04 or 05-??

You need to press the stem out of your M2 triple and press it into the XB triple... BUT first, you need to counterbore the underside of the lower triple to allow the M2 Stem to press in future since the XB lower triple is thicker then the M2 triple. Also, pay attention to the clocking of the M2 stem when removed and installed. If you do clock it the same your neck lock will not work.

this is what the bottom of XB lower should look like AFTER its counterbored

I also counterbored the top of the upper to except the larger headed tuber top bolt. You could skip this and just get an allen head bolt i needed. Once the M2 stem is in the XB triple, its bolt on for the front end.
Here is what my XB upper looked like after it was counterbored as well to accept the tuber stem bolt.

The XB stem has an external thread and nut.. the tuber has an internal thread and bolt.

Phxbuller-Thanks a bunch!

Thank you for the help. I was under the impression that it was a bolt on. Is this because the neck bearings are different? I can do the counterboring easily. Now I have to find a set of front forks. Thanks agen for your help the pictures really helped.

Well if you want to use clip-ons and have the front end lowered some, you can slide 03-04 forks into your stock triples with no mods. They fit but have to be slide up about 2 inches past the top triple to be able to clamp them which interferes with regular handlebars. This is what i tried first on my swap and didnt care for it. The X1 inverted forks are all one diameter, the XBs taper in between the clamping point. The tuber triples are straight across where the XB lower drops done. Thats where sliding the XB forks up farther comes into play.

Ok. I will go with changing the triples if I can find a set. It doesn't look like there is any for Sale. do you know who would be selling a front forks and triples and front and rear wheels with the disk brake and caliper.

best bet is either here, ebay, badweb, or buellsterparts

just remember, that the 03-04 forks are different diameter then 05+, and if i remember correctly i think 09 is even a different diameter maybe.... so you want to get the correct year triples to go with the forks. Its the 03-04 XB forks that are the same diameter as the tubers.

i ended up getting my forks for just over $100 on ebay and i think $80 for the triple.

My front brake disc i ordered from EBR and rear from ASB.

Thanks turboraven
