For all you guys who race your XB's competitively, what class do you run against? Obviously XB's can't compete against most liter bikes. So where can our bikes go? And taking that one step further, what about those who go with a big bore kit (1250, 1430, whatever else there might be)?

EDIT: To clear up the post's title I meant XB12's in general, not just an xb12s lightning.

depends on the club racing in your area. CMRA has several classes that several Buells can run in. The XB12R runs in Superstock C, bored up to 1250. I know for sure that the Buell 1125R and Buell blast are mentioned specifically in the CMRA rule book for certain classes. The XB9R can be ran in I think Superstock B.

CSBA they run in Thunderbike classic.

Xb9 can compete in lightweight twin. Xb12 can compete in one of.the formula classes. in the cmra I've been told.

What part of the country are you in?? Check the club racing in your area. They will have list of where it can compete. I know CMRA has I believe Superstock A in the Formula class that allows unlimited engine... that said, you are going to get your ass handed to you all day long in that class by S1000RRs, Duc 1098s, RSV Factorys, etc etc etc.

I wouldn't exactly condsider that a class to "compete" in. For that you might as well just do open track days and have fun.
I see plenty of people wih race prepped XB's though. They have to be competing somewhere. I doubt anyone would spend the time and money making an XB a race bike if all they could compete against was 170+hp superbikes lol

maybe I'm not tracking you. Are you talking about drag racing??

again, RR rules vary by what organization you are racing with. Every area has tweaked rules. I don't know off anyone with a prepped road racing bike that is running a big bore kit like a 1330 or hell even a 1250, so really can't help ya there. Here's the CRMA rule book for this year

I'm talking about road racing. I've seen pictures of some XB12's here and there prepped for full on road racing. I've even read articles of some doing quite well or winning in their class. I just have no idea what those classes are. However, thunderbike sounds familiar for some reason.

There's no class for say air cooled twins or other "classic" motor designs to compete in (Im drawing a blank of other bikes but something where a ducati 1000ss, xb9/12, ext could compete)

I see the bikes racing. Just curious where.

Looked into that CMRA link. Looks like an XB12 can compete in "Superstock Expert/Novice, C Superbike Expert/Novice" (up to 1250cc 4 stroke air cooled twins) as well as "Heavyweight Twins Expert/Novice" under formula rules (unlimited displacement 4 stroke air cooled twins).

That's cool. But The class also allows water cooled 4 cylinders up to 650cc. I don't see an XB12 competing well against any Japanese 600 once the straight aways come up. Dang. Too bad there isn't another class just for air cooled engines.
