Just about to roll over 20k miles and since I skipped my fork service at 10k I'm going to give it a shot this weekend. Anyone have any advice on performing the service? I have the manuals and just plan on following the directions in there, but if anyone has any shortcuts or recommended tools I would love to hear them!

you only need a heavier weight oil if you cant get enough adjustment out of the factory damper. big people and two-up would benefit the most but if you are under 200lbs i cant really see the need for heavier weight oil.

I just had mine rebuilt at a local shop. They said they needed a couple special tools, and since I was short on time I let them do it. They also put a heavier oil in and adjusted it a bit stiffer I believe, since I'm a heavy guy.

Are yours 43mm? I don't know if you already bought all the seals and all but if you haven't I have brand new everything needed to rebuild them I'd ship to you at a good price if you want. All unopened packages. I have the dust covers, oil seals, slide bushings, guide bushings, and retainer clips. I bought it all from HD and ASB then once the shop got the forks apart realized I had to replace the lower fork legs and the new fork legs came with all new rebuild parts, so I have extra. Just throwing it out there...

Excellent, thanks! On the oil weight, I'm just at or just over 200 all geared up, but I ride in the desert where it gets up to 115 degrees or so in the summer, would the heavier weight oil be beneficial in that climate? Also ride 2-up about 25% of the time...

Based up on being 200lbs + passenger + higher temps, I would go ahead and use the heavier oil. You won't have to adjust dampening as much and may be a bit better response.

If you desire the AMSOIL, PM me, I'll get you a good price on it.
