So it happened again!! This time after I went to the store to goto work!! Started in the drive way no problem, went to cvs about 1/2 a mile away. Parked, neutral killed it. Shop shop shop, drink my red bull then get on 1:key in 2:run switch 3:wait for fuel pump to shut up 4:start button. It clicks once then sounds like a louder fuel pump noise bzzzzzzzz but its not the pump. Turn the key back. I retrace my steps 1 through 4, so wtf!! It started it earlier in the day went for some rides stopped the engine-twice and it started up, I'm thinking it needs to warm up before I kill it?? I'm just pissed cuz I had to push a 400lb dead Johnny5 1/2 a damn mile then speed to work. What y'all think? Let it warm up so the fan kicks on when I kill it? New starter? Battery is newer all the fuses are newer no after mkt stuff drawing power... Some help possibly?

Just had a similar problem, check, unplug, and clean all connections under the pulley cover. As well as checking the battery cables

If the battery is new, make sure it's got a good ground. I just put one in my xb a few weeks ago, fired right up with no clicks. Rode it for 35 min to a dealer giveaway, putzed around for a bit and a mechanic there wanted to hear it. Went to fire it up, dead as a doornail. They charged the battery for me, but what we found was, the bolt that came with the battery was about 1/16" too long and even though it was tight (bottomed out apparently) it wasn't making good contact. No problems after adding a washer to the stack on the terminal.

all good advice above and it's pretty simple......you need spark, fuel and compression for it to run....those 3 plus good battery to start. starter systems on these bikes pretty robust so i wouldn't go throwing random parts at it like starter switch, relay, new starter, things of that nature. do what is suggested above and if start cycle produces clock reset on your dash chances are battery is on the way out. give it a good charge and double-check cables. and "warming up" the bike doesn't solve anything. best thing for any motor including these is to start it, get your gear on in 30 seconds or so, get on the bike and go with light throttle and low revs until motor warms sufficiently.

the clock did reset a few days back, and i got a local mechanic telling me its the solenoid. further research led me to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DMsk3CdGTw and that's the sound its making an that's whats it doing...its a spring of sorts. so rather then feeding the monster that is Harley Davidson. local business is key honest and not a drone.

figgen HD ready to open a line of credit on a 20$ part.
