Hi, I'm dumb

I own an xb12s lightlong 25th, starter went replaced(380.00done) now it won't hold a charge. Stator or regulator...I'm in need of photo walk through or just one photo of what needs to be checked to insure my final costly descision! One or both replaced, don't drop links to other posts I already checked em out and am left with confusion on the 77 an the other ports located through out. First buell and loving it, the previous owner was a douche and was killen her. Rescued from the AZ heat

Thx sics-out

Did the battery test comes back as 11.25/26 not running an @ 3k rpm it's 11.75 which is not recharging at all. I have a 35 mile run to work nightly. It's on a trickle to keep her alive, kinda like life support, funny since I work at a hospital semi ironic

sicsteeth, the77connector is only on the2007 buells on back and the American SportBike .com and the Stealership will have an upgraded pigtail connector for the Older buells. Now the 2008 through 2010 have an upgraded Regulator and Stator . They will go out for some reason which I figured out the Regulator is too close to the engine cylinder in the front and too much traffic just Fries the Inner gel and Electronics.
Just once done with your work fixing the Regulator EXTEND the Regulator out [3/4] of an Inch only! get 3/ - 3/4 inch long aluminum hollow dowels and 3 -[1 inch]/bolts GOOD ONES not ZINC boltsblack iron works good, you might just go up to the Hardware Store, ACE worked for me.
Get the Regulator away from the Front head. that should help extend the life of the New part, the heat will do less damage. Also a Small piece of vacuum line to protect the wiring slide it over the threads of the bolts if they are a little long going through the Bracket the Regulator bolts to so the regulators wires don't sit on the bolts and rub through your wiring over time.
My Bike has been done Exactly like this for my XB12R 2008 to present so far so good.I can actually slip my fingers down the back after it has run and the Gel sealant is still cool to the touch, I think I Spent about 6/Bucks on the Extending out of the Regulator 17 thousand miles so far & for the money it was worth it. Hope this will help. *Jimi

Yeah, my 2008 is having problems with the regulator as well. The gel, potting material is cracking and the regulator works sometimes, then sometimes no voltage, other times too much voltage. Bad mounting from factory, way too close to front jug. I have fabbed a heatshield and thought about relocating the entire assembly. I already built a heatshield for rear header and for clutch cable, I'm not sure how many more I will need to continue riding this beast here in the South Texas heat. Stator appears to work just fine, single phase. 25a-AC at idle, 65a-AC at 3000 rpm.

Hmm, gonna check that one when I return to the lair. Lately I've been riding with a battery kill switch and trickle charging when I'm not riding. Mechanics price is 470 for parts an labor of the VR an stator. Doesn't seem too bad
