New to the forum.

Just picked up an '09 SCG 2 months ago with 20K and was well taken care of with all maint completed and up to date.

The original owner got rid of exhaust valve etc but kept the OEM can, thus initiating the ECL permanently.

How can I reset the ECL without ECMSPY or is it at all possible.?

Thanks ahead of time for the assistance.

I assume he got rid of all the hardware that went to it? You can just place the plug back in, but leave it disconnected to anything on the other end, which would eliminate the issue. Otherwise, you can disable with with spy, as mentioned. I'm sure there's probably someone near you who would give you a hand.

All hardware is gone.

Which plug are you speaking of and I assume you mean to plug it back into the ECM?

Nope.... no one around. I live 190 miles from the closest HD dealer and I have the ONLY Buell for that distance squared.

I do have a very experienced Dane "Old Skool" Vincent/HD/V-Twin Tech/Mech that has his own little shop here in town. But he is very limited in EMC/TPS tuning experience and sends his ECM tuning work out.

Again, thanks in advance.

1st welcome to the forum. Now you said the Orignal Exhaust is still on the Bike and also unchanged. There is also an Valve inside the Factory Muffler. You will need to either Remove inner valve inside the Muffler and Rework the Orignal Muffler .
You can also send the Exhaust Muffler to K D Fabrication .com in North Carolina. This will cost you a few bucks but it will help open up the Exhaust and the Sound will be pretty good. It will still Bolt up back with all the Stock Straps and no changes except Sound and some extra power. About 2 to 3 hp gain.
Should you decide to just do the Cheap thing wiring the Muffler open make sure to keep up with that so you don't make the Engine Suffer because midrange power will suffer..
My Advice to you is to Remove the Valve inside THEN install a small piece of pipe in it to connect the piping properly. Now if the metal wire connecting to the Muffler is still connected and going up to the inner air box then wire it 3/4 open.that is a Temp., fix.
The Best way for less trouble in the longrun is to Remove it (the valve) inside the Muffler and if all the wiring to the Stock Exhaust is still up in the Airbox leading up to the Upper Air Box as long as the Wiring to the Active Exhaust, is there then Just Go to American Sportbike .com and emmunlator for tricking the ECM into beliving the Exhaust is still Stock and unchanged.
Order the small part and plug it in to the electrical wiring plug problem solved!. Now is the mufflers wire Cable gone going up to the Inner Air Box where the inneractive servo valve was? If it is then the Spring down at the Muffler which closes the valve needs to be removed.
American Sportbike usually will have the part to turn off the cel Light. This will turn off only yellow(cel) light for the Exhaust only.. If something else goes wrong miles down the road then the cel will still operate properly to let you know to check for something. You can also order a new ECM from Erik Buell Racing .com the ECM will come Preprogramed for the Exhaust change, and anything else you have done to Alter the Stock Version. and make sure to tell them if you go that Route any changes made to the bike.
The Exhaust Muffler will need to be properly Reworked for that Erik Buell ECM to be used. The Buell Motorcycle is like an Old School Street Rod you can modifiy it and make it your own.Do some research and look through the mods section here on the forum. Good Luck.Enjoy your Bike. *Jimi

Jimi,

Thanks for the post. The entire process you posted was completed by the prior owner all except the EB ECM which I will not put on per the directions of my local PVT Vincent/HD/Buell Mech whom I have been seeing for advice as this is my first BUELL/HD. But he did mention the Emulator as being the best viable option if I can find one.

Thus, thanks Jimi and Joel for the links. Al doesn't have one but I am seeing if the one on Ebay is still available.

I do all my own maint so once I get it, it will go on for the gutted OEM can. I eventually will be putting a Jardine on.

Rick

PS: This is my 16th bike over a 35 year history of riding and racing. (3 Duc's, 4 CBRs, 3 Katana's, 4 GPZ's and 1 GSXR. This rig is by far the baddest cnyn demon rig I have ever had. Not the fastest mind you, but the most incredible responsive and handling bike yet. Bitchen!
