HID Install

alright im going to install a set of HID's into my blast and i just want to make sure im looking at the right kit here since theres not a lot of information on this for the blast.

i was gonna go with this kit not sure if 35watt or 55watt yet but a H4 Hi/Lo bulb

I carefully looked over the information you provided and it is my opinion that it looks good and you should be fine. Should be a nice upgrade for a relatively low cost.

alright the main thing i wanted to make sure of is that the blast is a H4 Hi/Lo bulb since its hard to tell sometimes while googling

If you haven't downloaded the owners manual yet, I hightly recommend doing it ... it has that info in there in the very front of it ... I did a short search, H4 bulb hi/low is the way to go ... [up]

Has anyone done just a standard H4 HID set and not the hi/lo style. I'm curious as to what happens when you switch to high beams.

I don't know from experience on the blast but i would assume your light would just stay the same. I have a 1125r which has two separate bulbs for high. I put in hid 35w 6k's in the lows and never need the highs. If you do just the low it's probably going to do one of two things when you switch to high. 1: stay the same 2: turn off
I highly doubt you would need a high.

yeah im thinking just a standard H4 will work just fine as its going to be bright as is and im thinking of even going with a 55Watt kit so it should be super bright in the low position.

well if you go with the time delay relay, and get yourself a normal automotive relay here is a wireing diagram that i made for mine when i did the mod about three years ago or so, It worked just fine for me!

I know its not a very pretty drawing, but it worked for me, if you have any questions just let me know!



EDIT - Sorry I didn't realize that you were doing this on a blast, I just saw HID, and jumped the gun. If you can still use the schematic then awesome, if not then maybe somebody else will see it and use it one day.....

The schematic is very helpful - thank you - as the factory wiring diagram is vague at best regarding the 85 and 86 terminals. So, to be clear, if I understand your schematic correctly, one would actually need to install two discreet relays, one for the high beam side, and a second one for the low beam side - correct? And - two questions - regarding wiring the 87 terminal to HID input, is that the HID ballast you wire the relay to? Also, as you show connection of the 30 terminal of the High Beam relay to the 87 terminal of the Low Beam relay, I presume this staggers the two HID systems, so that the Low Beam relay timing "on" then energizes the High Beam relay and thus beginning its time delay?

I'll be honest with you, I've really never been around a blast enough to pay attention to their headlight set up. So I'll explain how exactly I set my firebolt up. It should apply to your blast assuming you have two different bulbs, one for low beam, and one for high beam.

But yes the relay you posted above ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/HID-Relay-T...t=US_Car_Lighting&hash=item5d3d65269f&vxp=mtr )will accompany a normal automotive relay that can be picked up at any car parts store such as autozone or advanced. The time delay relay will be for the low beam, and then the regular relay is tied in with the high beam.

in regards to the 87 pin - when i got the kit from DDM i cut all the quick connectors off the kit, so I was dealing with the wires themselves. the kit itsself will have two little box looking things with it. The one that is circled with the arrow to it (the balast) will be your 87 pin. The other quick connetor that is not circled will be what actually goes to the bulbs

the 87/30 connection works like so - once you send power to the time delay relay by turning your key on power will enter the time delay relay through its 30 pin, and start the ten seconds. After the ten seconds time out your low beam will ignite. But yes the point of it all is just so the high beam is running off time time delay, or at least that was my reason. I'm sure you could rewire it so that you have both kits running off the one relay, but I usually turn my high beam off when i park the bike anyway....

yeah ive been looking through how to wire it up and thats basically what i was thinking is that ill have to cut the harness for the ddm kit to wire in the TDR if i go with the Hi/Lo kit, but im thinking if i go with just a standard HID kits and not the Hi/Lo kit then when i have it switched to high beams then in theory the lights should be off completly therefore eliminating the needs for a TDR.
