hey all,
when i first bought my 1125r i could hardly look at it, the exhaust was hideous and the front scoops and fairing don't match the tail at all, i also hate the drag-ass tail, anyways ive fixed my beefs with the exhaust by making my own stainless tips and by shaping some sheet metal for the front of the exhaust. My next project is to fix the mismatched tail and front fairing/scoops. As the title states im doing this by putting an xb12r undertail on the 1125rand raising it about 4 inches, now before you tell me its not possible, i have purchased the free spirits tail lift brackets available from trojan horse which will give me enough clearance for the off center suspension, and i am planning on cutting off the existing battery tray and making my own from aluminum that will mimic the battery tray in the firebolt subframe. I will be posting pictures and writing about it as i go so those of you interested feel free to ask questions. Im hoping that a few people who have had experience with 1125r lightning tail swaps will be able to share any insight they can think of to help me through this project. wish me luck! [up]
heres the before picture with my customized exhaust and the other mods that I've done so far.

I think what I truly hate about some years of 1125r have the matte blue frame - the black frames are so much nicer looking!

It's a little hard to tell what you did to the exhaust, but the tips look nice. Good luck with the rest of the mods - looking forward to pictures :)

I didnt even know the 12r tail was any different from the 1125. Always assumed they were the same since the plastics look so similar. Just the same good luck in your mods pics with progress ;) Not a huge fan of the diamond blue frame either, but its grown on me a bit.[up]

Here are a couple photoshop previews that ive done. I have been careful to measure as best i can so these should be very close to the final result! in the picture with the blue background that tail section may be slightly more angled than i have accounted for in the photoshop (i.e. it may be a little more lifted than pictured.) let me know what you think!

I had to do some serious back and forth to notice even a little difference. Maybe that is because it is black...?

nice images man thanks I always enjoy images. I think the sound and strangeness of the bike are what make it an oddity and therefore interesting. I like weird stuff.

heagachongoose, have you got tail lift brackets that youre going to use or are you just planning on shaving a bit of the firebolt undertail to clear the suspension? I had a really hard time finding the brackets! Also post pictures as you go, id like to see how you do your battery tray, theres a couple different ideas im floating around.

Matteson, i totally agree on the strangeness, between the exhaust, tail lift, undertail, and a couple mods ive done to the headlights(integrated turn signals instead of running lights and led strips under the headlights [like audi]) this will be the only 1125r that looks the way mine does! [up]:D

hey i finished all the mods, tail lift, xbr undertail, clip ons, bigger air intake, and vinyl wrap. Ill be posting some pictures in the next couple days but i finished it all, so to any doubters, IT CAN BE DONE! [up] if any of you are interested in a walk thru or of more detailed pictures about any of the above mentioned mods, shoot me a pm

I think the xbr tail is higher, and I like that, but for all the work you went through it is not that much different. I love the XB12s tail on the 1125, but the firebolt tail on it is not enough different for me to notice too much. With that said, think I could jam that stuff into an XB tail? Always loved that look.

Mac buell. I can. I only used half of my s tail. Other half is storage for gloves hat tools wallet cell phone. Well and toolkit
