I've never been a fan of KTM....... until I started looking around and found the 1290 and watched some videos. Seems as close to a Buell XB12 as you can but on steroids!

Any thoughts?

Have fun trying to get one. People that put deposits on them are getting very upset. They kept getting the run around saying 1 week every week for a few months now and now they are delayed for who knows how long. 2 of my friends just went with RC8R's after getting sick of waiting. At the rate they are going the new EBR 1190SX will be out and will hopefully look awesome. I'd rather wait for that cause EBR has been pretty good with sticking to dates a lot better than KTM seems to be lately.

Will be replacing my bike with it next season barring they don't have major teething issues on the first year.

it looks and sounds amazing in the vids and the concept was freaking awesome...

thought i would go test ride one on the weekend and once i saw it in person it was meh nothing special. the stock factory muffler setup is nothing like the concept and sounds kinda dull.

test rode it and also was not impressed. I'll stick with my 1250cc 2007 XB12SS i think.

I liked it, til I saw the price. For me it's not worth the money. Too many other options out there. Plus my xb12r is awesome and it will take a more awesome bike for me to part with it.

Our factory muffler setup was terrible to. To me a bike isn't complete from the factory. Minimum mods are a slip on, and a tune of some kind if it's available. I can't really say no to the power of the ktm. The buell was amazing when I got it but now it's been a awhile and I've gained 60+ pounds since I bought it. Now it's feeling a little slow. Bombing around on a friends r1 then getting back on mine is kind of depressing. Having almost 190hp out of the box is a major selling point to me, and having a naked bike is also a must. I don't think I could join the masses, have a sport bike that is designed to live on a track and use 1/16th of its potential. The ktm is a total hooligan machine. I thought the same thing when I saw the xb. Not that I do stupid stuff on the street (that might be a lie when no ones around), but I like to have to power on tap to get a little crazy when I want to. My way around this expensive ktm would be swapping a 1125r engine in but the mechanics of the swap make it a lost cause.

Older 990 superduke's are a great bikes too. Even carburated models reacts on throttle very quickly and are really nice to drive. Test drove my friends 990 last summer, and it was pretty easy to wheelie. When the front tyre hit the road I had almost 120mph's on the speed gauge.

In here Finland people haven't had any issues getting their 1290's on time.

I really like my Buell, so for me to sell it will demand a special bike to replace it also. I will have to sell my BMW K1300R + Buell XB12 to get one due to the cost. I don't see the point holding onto the Buell if you have a KTM if the videos are anything to go by.

I will check this bike out, in the past, whenever I've seen KTM bikes I've not been impressed because they look like toys with their plastic tanks and surrounds but I'll keep my mind open until I see it in the flesh.

All bikes now are dull with stock exhausts, even Harleys who are known for their loud rumbling exhaust notes sound lame from new until the exhaust is change.

My research is definitely leading me to this bike! Sounds amazing (pity about the chain though) will mean having to sell my XB12ss which wont be easy!

the complete and utter ******-ness of ktm's parts pipeline and availability rivaled only by ducati. that in itself would keep me from buying any ktm product here in America.

The SX is ******* ugly. No "to each, their own" the headlight is stupid, the scoops are a rush job, and the tail is too track to be a street fighter. Its ******* lame.

Yeah, I'm all about the aircooled Buells but agree with crash.

Comparing apples to apples (1290SD vs 1190SX), the KTM definitely takes the cake in the aesthetics department...also in hp and tq output.

I think the biggset mistake was not creating a shorter tail for the SX, like they did with the Lightnings. I love the shorter tails.

My local dealer has a Super Duke 1290R. They look as trick in person as the pic's. I would love to have it. I am 5'11" and can touch flat footed. Bike needs an Akropovic pipe but other than that, superb.
