KTM 1290!

the complete and utter ******-ness of ktm's parts pipeline and availability rivaled only by ducati. that in itself would keep me from buying any ktm product here in America.
Agreed. Although it isn't a bad product, with no support after the sale that's worthwhile, it takes any positives and totally negates them. I will say, Ducati has MUCH improved. If the dealer needs a part and it isn't stocked in any USA warehouses, they NDA it to them from Italy. Doesn't matter if its a $.79 O-ring or a $400 engine case. Now...I am presuming they'd have it in Italy though?! Lol!

The SX is ******* ugly. No "to each, their own" the headlight is stupid, the scoops are a rush job, and the tail is too track to be a street fighter. Its ******* lame.
Comparing apples to apples (1290SD vs 1190SX), the KTM definitely takes the cake in the aesthetics department...also in hp and tq output.

....sadly I agree

also in hp and tq output.

Did I read something wrong?

The 1290 Super Duke R name tells us exactly what we need to know about this KTM: Its engine is big, it carries the sporty R designation, and nothing named Duke would ever be considered weak, right?

The fact that this lithe naked bike is packing a 1,301cc, *152-hp (at the rear wheel) * V-twin,
Dyno sheet on another post states EBR considerably more?!

Most of us will admit, it's all about the bottom end grunt with these big twin naked bikes. That's what makes the air cooled buells so much fun despite their obvious lack of top end. Arguing over a few peak hp here between the SX and SD is a moot point.

I thought the KTM packed more than enough power. It felt really light on the front end when accelerating. I found myself holding back for fear of pulling wheelies - which I can't do.

Agree...It's just that the KTM just *doesn't* " 'take the cake' in HP and tq output" And as one guy says as far as aesthetics...to each his own. I see some things that could have been done differently for MY liking, but all in all, I'm happy to see it.
Comparing your xb to these bikes.... lol
09bolt; Yeah....2 different worlds. While I agree with the guy stating that the a/c Buells ARE fun to ride....(that's a given), there just is NO other comparison between the two. I HOPE that's what dude meant and not a 'direct' comparison.

that's a headlight? i thought it was the base section to a dirt devil bagless vacuum cleaner?
Hahaha!!! Seriously though, I know there was pressure to release the SX but id wait another year if it meant a product that people would buy. No one really "wants" first year production anyways.

O absolutely!! My Buell in no way compares to the KTM in terms of performance, agility etc etc. Infact the Buell is very lumpy and heavy. My comparison - at that moment - was design/looks. The KTM is not that far away from the sit up and beg Buell XB - I was comparing the KTM being similarly designed when compared to my K1300R or the S1000R. Apple and Pears I know but my bike preference, now that I test ridden a S1000R and own a K1300R & Buell is that I prefer the sit up and beg comfy position of those type of bikes and in that context the KTM is similar.

I think EBR dropped the ball with the headlight and the tail on the SX. The tail just does not fit the street fighter category and what the hell is up with the headlight it's just ugly. [sad]

Actually, first look at those pics and I'd agree with the criticisms but looking at this first look video and it doesn't look so bad. Sure there could be improvements but... although sticking a radiator in line with the front tyre is asking for trouble I think. How to damage an expensive radiator in 10 minutes, no?

I wonder if they plan to sell to Europe & UK or is it going to be exclusive USA only?

we will be offering our new 1190SX only in countries that ride/drive on the right side(the correct side) of approved roadways. this is proportionately due to the fact that our CMD(center mass driveline) along with our newly developed PFFS(proprietary front fork suspension system)is fully integrated and exclusively designed for right-side riding only. all other countries can kiss my arse.

worst detail of the SX ive seen so far is the location and uglyness of the coolant reservoir.
