So I go tomorrow to get my new xb9sx and I was wondering, does anybody have a suggestion for tires? I am mostly going to be doing street riding in town with occasional twisty trips. I would like a tire that I can get a good amount of mileage out of. I don't have any brand hatred (even towards shinko) just looking for other opinions.

EVERYBODY has their own opinion on this! Just use the search tab on this forum, and you'll find MANY threads on it. I have an SX as well. I always ran the Scorpion Sync's that it originally came with. They were a nice all around tire. Tried Dunlop Q2's.....handled very well, priced right, but I got the least milage out of them compared to any others I've run. I have Michelin Road 2's on it now.....very decent all around tire. Maybe a bit squirlley when the roads are COLD....but I am getting some serious milage out of them and they handle/corner great. I DO ride semi-aggressively....only about an 8th inch of chicken strip...and even in there, there's a few 'scrub' marks!
I run the pilot powers now which I like a lot, very sticky. I used to run tomahawks(retreads) made by desser tire co, I was very satisfied with them and honestly they were just as good as the pilots, I just now buy the pilots because a friend can get them to me for the same price and they are the "brand" name. Figure ~5k miles for either of these.

I really liked the Sync's....but after putting these Road 2's on, AND getting 7+K miles out of them as hard as I run them with the performance aspect of them...well...I have to say they're even better than the very hard to find, if not defunct Sync's. I run a lot of miles with some 'cruiser' buds of mine....but I also play hard. If i'd run a pure sport tire, I'd be putting tires on every month. (I avereage 15-18k miles a season). These give me the very best of both worlds with very little compromises. The dual compound scared me at first. One of my friends has a newer R1 and rides super hard....he told me about these as he runs them. And knowing how he rides It made me feel 'OK' about them.

Love my Michelin Pilot Power 2CT. have had them on my last 4 bikes. and will continue to stick with Michelins

I ran through several sets of Shinkos on a little 250 dual sport I used to have. I really liked them for the price but I'm just not sure I'd feel 100% comfortable mounting them on larger, more powerful, street bikes where handling & construction integrity are so much more important.

09 Uly originally came with Pirelli Scorpion Sync, that's what the PO put on there and gave me an extra set. I am not an aggressive rider and they would wear out in less than 4K. Put on Michelin PR3's, and from a non aggressive rider these tires feel exactly the same except they are at 3800 miles and still look new.

i'm frugal and 60 so shinkos on 2 of my buells. they are yokohamas made in south korea. alot of tire for the money and on average you can buy a pair for the cost of a top-shelf rear tire.
PS-wiggle2 sure to chime in with "old guy" comment.
I ran shinkos on my 07 zx6r and did not have any sticky issues for the first 500 miles. After those first 500 I don't know because a genius in a Chevy avalanche wrecked me. (Pulled in front from cross street trying to make it and stopped in my lane)

Good to hear some testimony from guys running the Shinkos on larger bikes at higher speeds than I did. I just recall seeing minior chunking happen to the treads on the 244s, 700s & 705s that I ran on my little 250, and it didn't fill me with confidence to run them on my XB.
Hey John!! I WAS going to comment before when I seen a post about the Shinko's!! I KNOW you're cheap AND old, but thought I'd cut you some slack THIS time!! But...since YOU bought it up.......!
This WASN'T Lunatic! At his age, sometimes he gets confused between riding his little Italian scooter and his Buells!! He's still a nice guy and all though!!
Seriously though, I know some guys running them on some R6's around here. If you're on a budget and just want to ride and not play Ricky Racer, it's better than not riding at all.
