Tire suggestion?

I don't know what shinkos cost and I have no experience with them so can't comment on them but the tomahawk's I used to use are pretty damn cheap and are a great tire. I think I was paying about $180 for the set. If you want a cheap but good tire I highly recommend them. Like I said above I loved them and my only reason for going to the michelins is because a friend gets them to me for almost the same price. After running 3 sets of the tomahawks I just wanted to try something different and michelin is a "brand" name so figured I'd give it a shot for almost the same price. I can't tell any difference between the michelins and the tomahawks, they seem like the same tire as far as wear life, grip, etc. The stock diablo's that were on the buell when i got it were terrible, they didn't stick to the pavement at all.

Just to add to what other have said:
I've run Shinkos on everything from an LS650 (650cc 'thumper' cruiser) to a Hayabusa and have never had any serious complaints. The Hayabusa was not stretched or lowered and I touched down foot pegs many times on the Shinko "Apex". My only complaint with those was the mediocre tread life (I got 3500-4000mi out of the rear).

The Pilot Road series (I ran the Road 2 on multiple bikes) are one of the most amazing tires I've ever ridden on. They stuck great wet/dry/hot/cold and the tread life is excellent. I rode through torrential rains and freezing temps with those on that Hayabusa and NEVER felt like they were lacking in traction. The only time they ever spun on me was at 30-some odd deg. and the big Bus will spin ANY tire at those temps.

Currently I'm running a set of Contenental Conti-Motion Sport touring tires on my XB and I like them a lot. Plenty of grip, they roll into a corner very smoothly, and the 'feel' is great. I figured for well under $200/set they were worth a try and I have not been let down yet. Mileage will be the final test for me. I'm hoping for 6000 or so from them. [up]

My XB9R came with some Shinko Advance something or others. They had a heavy turn-in for me and I didn't feel much feedback from the front end; both issues could be attributed to their heavier weight. They wore out quite quickly for me. Other tires in the Shinko line may be better, but I didn't like these.

As soon as I put on the Q3's, without changing my suspension settings, my first two issues were instantly fixed.

You can get a set of Q3's from DennisKirk.com for $217 shipped, right now.

I only run Tomahawks :D

Sounds like a sport touring tire is what you need. TONS of riders rave about the Michelin Pilot Road series, I doubt you'd regret them.

I'll also vouch for ContiMotion as well. My wife currently has them on her SV and they've been great. If we were doing a ton of road riding I would plan to get them as replacements on the xb as well. However, we've been bitten by the track bug and will both go with something a little more performance oriented for our next tires. Probably Pilot Power series.

Agreed![up]

Today's sport touring tires are just yesterday's sport tires. There's nothing you can sanely throw at a sport touring tire on the street that it won't handle. I probably won't gain many rep points for saying this, but I've long been a fan of Bridgestone's sport-touring Battlax 16, 20, 21 ,23 etc series for street use on every sport bike I've owned in the past decade.
