hey logix: i see that several issues had NHRA in-depth fuel car articles. here's a question for you that nobody and i mean nobody could ever answer for me: i understand how the fuel hemis function including the clutch pack, no trans, timers, little driveshaft, truck style top loading rear differential. i get all that. how the hell do they reverse the car? they do the burn out....stop...clutch pedal in...they do something in the car...and it backs up. is reverse engaged with a lever and what is the lever attached to and how does that gizmo work? just wondering. thanks much

just as a reminder, you have to look at the rules of the class of racing to truly adapt any of the latest technologies to our purposes. Most endurance racing classes have minimal usage rules. In FIA the same motor has to be used for qualifying/racing for two events in a row. With that in mind they use finite element analysis to determine the minimal amount of material for the forces involved and design with a small safety limit. Albeit that we don't push our engines as hard and as long of a continuous duration as endurance racers, long term heat/load cycling of street engine parts can require higher value characteristics (yield, tensile, compression, deformity) than the typical race engine because of our expectations of mean time between failure. Still some of the technology can cross over, particularly when related to piston engine aircraft racing engines. just FYI. Enjoy.
