Ok, I red line my 09 Uly once a month, probably not the best thing to do? Usually it is 1 up out on a back road, 2nd or 3rd gear, going over some rolling hills and nothing too risky or much skill required, as I am just an average rider. i have done this ever since I owned the bike, 2012. In your experience is this something the bike cannot handle or too damaging even if properly maintained? It is totally stock except for a K&N air filter.

the worst thing in the world for any IC motor is to lug it and never "work it". loads the combustion chambers and exhaust ports/valves with carbon and demotes sealing power of the rings.
the worst thing in the world for a stock IC cycle motor is to redline it at full throttle at every up-shift.

a happy medium between these 2 promotes longevity and good overall performance during the motor's lifespan

I redlined the $@&! out of my 2007xb12r. At least in first 3 gears about three times a week. Perhaps this contributed to my crank bearing going out at 37k. Or perhaps the crank bearing failure was due to some metallurgy issue that has been alluded to in other forums. AND maybe my aggressive shifting and what not is why my transmission also required a rebuild?
Eh, who knows... bikes are built to be ridden... It's yours, ride it however the hell you want just understand there are consequences to EVERYTHING.
That's my 2cents.

My bikes all see the rev limiter often, no issues yet.

They're also 3.125" stroke (Blasts and XB9R), so they're not as prone to the bearing failure that the 12's are.
