New Buell for me.

Ok, so a quick trip to NAPA and I picked up some submersible fuel hose. That stuff ain’t cheap! Wowza!

Anyhow, i reinstalled the fuel pump and bolted the muffler back up to let it idle nice and somewhat quietly so I could listen to what the motor was trying to say.

Cooter thinks it a loose crank or clutch nut. I think he has a screw loose, but that’s another story for another time!:black_eyed:

You can use a screwdriver to try and pinpoint that noise if you don't have a stethoscope

I agree, but the reality is that it’s either coming from a wrist pin, or the bottom end. Either way, the motor has to come out. I’ll pull it apart and we can see what’s really knocking around.

Sorry Cooter, both nuts are on tight!

Since a trip to the powdercoaters will happen someday, I may start my arts and crafts project as I'm waiting for other parts to arrive. This usually makes figuring out a color scheme much easier for my undecisive self. I like to use this picture and some colored markers to sketch a few color ideas out.

This time I'm considering doing the tail section, triple clamps, primary case and cam covers in a 'brushed' finish. I'll get them all sandblasted, add some random scratches with 80 and 120 grit sandpaper and have them clear powdercoated. One of the previous owners tried to do that with a wire wheel, a case of beer and a rock of meth.

I always liked clearcoat over raw metal with some artsy grinding. There were some CVO softail springers around 08 or 09 that had this that I thought were badass.

Have you ruled out a stuck or collapsed hydraulic lifter ? We used to pour some tranny fluid into the oil res. to unstick them, most times it worked.
I think it's Lucas brand that now has special additives for this problem.

Now that is a pretty good idea.

I keep saying I'm going to rotate the engine back and forth with the crank nut with the spark plugs removed to see if I can feel the tap in the connecting rods. If I dont feel it, I will try the ATF.

Hey gang! I just picked up a new to me 2006 XB12Scg.

She’s a total creme puff, but does need a little work. Especially in the joke telling apartment.

Here are some pics from the previous owner. A really nice guy named Mark. He said he picked it up about 6 months ago with the plan to rescue it back to its former glory, but just didnt have time. From what I understand he has several really nice motorcycles and just wanted to dump this junkyard dog.

I love the bare brushed metal look too.
I had an old Suzuki GS500 that I turned into a cafe racer.

After a couple years, some spider web lines of rust did creep under the powder coat. But I think on the Buell, a lot of the parts you mentioned are aluminum so rust won't be a concern.
