My 06 xb12x

Loving my newly acquired 06, plenty of other questions but I'll keep up the search before asking, most pressingly is my leaky rear shock, pretty sure it's the shock as I'm finding oil drops on my rear fender but none on the ground. Any tips on where to start looking for a leak? Shaft is a bit moist but no other obvious signs of leakage, any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance, 2006 XB12X ULY.jpg

I would pull the seat, take a flashlight, and take a good look around the rear head and cylinder. See if you're getting oil from a leak from there. It's pretty common to have leaky gaskets on the rear cylinder due to the heat. The oil buildup is known to kill the fan too.

Where on the fender? Any chance you have a damaged (or missing) O ring on your oil dipstick, and oil is leaking from there?

+1 to MG's post. The rear crankcase vent valve (on top of the rocker box) is a common source of oil leakage. It's usually the grommet drying out and shrinking.

If you are VERY careful, you can pull the PCV out of the grommet, and get a new one in without rotating the engine. Do not break the PCV - they are stupid expensive.

Check also the hose connection - they get loose too. This all goes for the front cylinder as well.
