So long story short i bought my buell xb12s last year and had a ton of issues trying to get it running. after a ton of fixes the main thing that was bad was the intake gaskets i fixed them and the bike ran great. after parking it for the winter i didnt do anything to preserve it and when i came back to it a month ago or so it wouldnt run ive been trying to figure out what the issue is. when i try to start it the only way to get it to start is by giving it gas well holding the starter when it does start i cant keep it running since it either idles for a second or if i give it throttle it will try to run but then die out after a second or two. i pulled the plugs and they looked bad so i replaced them well replacing them i found the wire from the coil to rear plug was very loose on the coil so i tightened that but it hasnt really fixed anything and im kinda stumped. I got it to run for a minute or two today by revving it really high but during that it crackled and popped like crazy and it sounded like it was missing once in awhile but not a constant miss. I also tried a tps reset and that did nothing. Where should i go from here is there any suggestions?

I would start with draining the old fuel and put in some fresh, check your fuel pressure like Cooter said and recheck the spark plug wires. Sometimes they can be a bugger to get on correctly.

Thank you Shaughn and also follow Dave's instructions. Remove the 4 dedicated Torx fasteners that hold the airbox cover on...remove airbox lid with EVA attached...remove air filter. Now try and start and see if your "loss of fuel" symptom the same. If so....KEY OFF....KILL SWITCH OFF...HOLD THROTTLE WIDE OPEN....DRIBBLE TABLESPOON OF GASOLINE DOWN THROTTLE BODY....KEY ON...KILL SWITCH TO ON....1/3RD THROTTLE....NOW SEE IF IT STARTS.

thank you guys i really appreciate it. Ive been super busy with work but im off tomorrow and will try all of these starting with your suggestion of putting some gas straight into the throttle body its such a basic troubleshooting step cant believe i didnt think of that lmao thank you i will keep you guys updated.

Okay so i just tried spraying the gas into the bikes throttle body and it started right away and i can keep it running if i keep spraying gas into it. Now im wondering though is it possible its the injectors or is it more likely the fuel pump. And when watching the fuel pump tutorial the tutorial is to remove it do i have to remove it in order to test it ?

You never mentioned the model year but chances are pump is 20 years old and has never been serviced/rebuilt. That is towards the end of its life-span. You can buy a pump pressure testing kit online or jury-rig your own with proper gauge and simple 3/8" ID fuel line attached to pump outlet port and gauge. Looking for 49-51PSI range and pressure hold at least 1 minute. Likely a waste of time and money as all indicators a failed pump. Extremely rare to be failed injectors but you can check the small wiring loom for each injector checking for chafing atop each cylinder area. If purchasing a full rebuild kit my link is all that you need. Anything less and rebuild won't be completely successful. Extra hoses and clamps and attachment clips included with kit for 2003-2004 model pumps.
