    I’m having to cancel my trip for the foreseeable future. My Mother-in-law passed away and I am riding back to SoCal for the funeral. Maybe I can take this trip up again in September. I appreciate everyone’s contributions. Ride safe.

    Yep the tourtech bags are nothing but big aluminum boxes. I always liked the junior bags look on the XP scooters. It is odd how few of the 49 million Californians live and travel the Mendocino and Redwood coastal areas.

    We did the tourist ride through this giant redwood tree. Despite the hole, this tree is 315 ft, tall and healthy. The avenue of the giants is truly amazing, if you can imagine dozens of these trees lining the road.

    Northern California is so different than SoCal. The coast up here is filled with 300 ft. tall trees, 25 ft. waves, and spectacular, twisty roads.

    Got my clutch adjusted. It just needed some free play and no more slipping. Yeah, the views are so amazing that a couple of times I didn’t get set up for some tight turns and really had to concentrate through the turn!

    We are riding on Highway 1 through Northern California. This is along the area of Point Reyes. My Son rides a BMW 800GS. The Uly easily holds it own in all respects with the BMW. It has been a long time since I’ve ridden here and I forgot how beautiful NoCal is in the Spring.

    Took the Uly out for a shakedown cruise. Glad I did,the shifter linkage screw was lost on the busy Ortega Hwy. Luckily Ace hardware had the right s.s. Screw and nylock nut. My pillion helmet was relocated to the rack. If all goes as planned, I will ride North with my son tomorrow morning...

    Long story short, I'm riding my 09 Uly XP from SoCal to Dover, DE via OR, ID, WY, MT, SD, MN, WI, Great Lakes, Adirondacks, and to Laconia bike week. Then home to DE. If there is any interest, I could post up a couple photos and ride reports every couple of days.

    2009 XB12XT Ulysses Refresh

    My 1150GS took naps like that too after careening off baby heads in Death Valley. It was quite the workout to lift. I'd imagine your XT will hold it's own on the curvy CO roads against those Euro ADV bikes. Enjoy your new ride!

    2009 Buell XB12XP for sale

    Great bike! I have the same bike and the cases work fine for extended touring, even two-up. Just be sure to limit the top case contents to 11 lbs. with a passenger aboard or the front end gets squirrel-ly. I'll be riding mine to Bozeman Memorial day weekend to visit my brother.
