XB9S 2002 –Can Error 14 (eng Temp too high) cause the ECU to stop the engine running

Symptom. 1 mile into a ride with engine still cool and bike coughs, engine warning light comes on so head home to check. At home engine turns over, fuel pump runs but no firing. Bloody thing, leave in garage and go for ride on 1911 Triumph as that always works... Next day connect ECMDroid and...

Hi RB - it is really worth doing the mod I mention - 10 minutes and you will have progressive braking.

Useful tweaks to improve a Buell for free

#2 Useful Tweak ... Gear Change – Perfect action fixed for less than a $ £ Euro The gear change lever on my 03 XB9S did not have precise feel and indeed could wobble about – not ideal for precise gear changes or avoiding missed gears. The gear change comes out of the engine case and then via 2...

Useful tweaks to improve a Buell for free

The front brake on my 03 XB9s did not have a smooth progressive action – instead the brake lever at the limit moved in a series of tiny steps with creaking noises – not confidence inspiring or ideal for control. I suspected semi seized pistons in the caliper or master cylinder but a look at the...

XB9S – running very roughly – tried various fixes – need some expert help!

The bike is fixed and running – it was fuel pump assembly related. Many thanks to LunaticFringe for your expert help. So that others can benefit ... Symptoms – running so roughly it could not be ridden and no error codes and only clue was the AFV was 147. So what was wrong? – The internal...

XB9S – running very roughly – tried various fixes – need some expert help!

I should be clearer - it is the metal canister filter on the pressurised side that I am needing - the one on the bike has an outer dia of 1.25" - important as it has to be this dia to slide into the housing. The replacement one I have is c50mm dia - so too big. The o rings are the ones fitted to...

XB9S – running very roughly – tried various fixes – need some expert help!

getting closer to fixing it and pre strip down test showed just 11psi (should be ~49psi) BUT - Got it all apart and the 2003 Buell fuel filter that I was sent is c50mm diameter - which is maybe what a later Buell uses and my one is just 1.25" Dia (c31.6mm) and the 50mm wont fit in the...

LunaticFringe - many thanks again and thanks for the offer re the level sensor - just managed to get one in the UK - its a tiny thing. XB9S – running very roughly – tried various fixes – need some expert help!

LunaticFringe - many thanks for the further advice. I have just ordered metal inline filter. Cant find a fuel level sensor yet in UK but will get one. XB9S – running very roughly – tried various fixes – need some expert help!

Thanks for your further thoughts. I do have ECMDroid and find it very useful. I like the idea of Cooters - put a valve in the fuel block - then in future very easy to test. I will also make up a fuel pressure test kit as a useful thing and when I have it anyone else in the UK is welcome to pop...

XB9S – running very roughly – tried various fixes – need some expert help!

Thanks for all of your suggestions and I am working my way through them. Definitely no air leak (new seals last year and leak test shows all OK) Plugs are new and OK (but I have ordered new HT leads to try) Fuel pump comes on as normal at start and makes the same noise as usual. I dont have...

XB9S – running very roughly – tried various fixes – need some expert help!

2003 XB9S BUECB “Factory Race ECU” and Factory Race exhaust. Low miles and well looked after and not messed with - just stock. Was running fine before. After not riding it for a couple of months when I tried to start it - 20 seconds of churning, then started and ran very roughly and after 10...

XB9S '03 Diagnostic assistance - erratic running seemingly temp related

Just to finish this thread and tell you what I did to solve this ... The Check Engine light did not indicate any trouble codes (it comes on when you start the bike and then goes out - if an error is stored then the light comes back on). To double check I used the manual error code approach of...

XB9S '03 Diagnostic assistance - erratic running seemingly temp related

I have an Android phone. Whilst checking that the diagnostic plug was working (it is) I tried jumping Pin 1 & 2 and see what codes flashed. All I had was rapid flashing so no codes - does ECMspy etc access other data or will it also find no error codes?
