    Bad electric gremlin

I did remove the entire alarm system and cleaned up all the wires (clean soldering and insulation). It helps a lot in term of tracing wires but Im still not able to find where the voltage drops. I did bypass the key switch so I know that this one isn't faulty. As stated above, the fact that...

    Bad electric gremlin

Thanks lunatic. I've been using this diagram from the repair manual: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2pi4196d0kcv8p3/xb-wiring-diagram.pdf From what I understand, 12v positive lead is the red wire (via the battery fuse). When key switch is on, power feeds to both red/grey and red/black wires. Am I...

    Bad electric gremlin

Ok So Im back on track. i successfully removed the viper alarm, but I still have to same problem: 1- key on, switch off: I can hear the key switch relay clicking, gauges sweep but no oil/neutral lights, no headlights, no turn signals. 2- key on switch on: ignition relay clicks and thats it...

    Bad electric gremlin

Quick update on this, since I haven't had much time to spend on the bike :-( I bought a few extra relays to test, but I get the same thing. Then I used the Viper diagram from Cooter to remove the alarm altogether (about 4 or 5 wires, not much) and resoldered everything properly. Since then I...

    Bad electric gremlin

I don't know the exact model, but I can look for a product number or serial. It has one large relay which I can hear click when I turn the alarm on and off. It's wired to allow ignition (pump used to prime with alarm on), but blocks the startter. I'll try bypassing it using that diagram, it's...

    Bad electric gremlin

I started looking into it, but it's a rat's nest and I'm afraid to create another source of problem. I might have to go get through it anyway if that's the source of the problem.

    Bad electric gremlin

Ill start by saying I love my bike but man do we have a frustrating love-hate relationship. Breakdowns seem to appear more often lately and im tired of fixing it, but when she runs I love it! So here is yet another electrical problem I hope someone could help me shine some light on. Iong post...

Top end rebuild - no oil

Nevermind, the light did go out eventually, after about 1mn of non stop cranking :-) Now if the snow could melt, that'd be great...

Top end rebuild - no oil

Isn't the oil pressure light staying on as long as the engine isn't running? I'm cranking with no plugs and no fuel pump, and I can't tell if I've got oil circulating. I uncoupled the pipes at the oil cooler to check right after cranking, and I do have a bit of oil dripping but not a lot. Can...

Top end rebuild - no oil

Yes, just top end. How long can those engines run without oil? Id hate to have to take it all apart again...

Top end rebuild - no oil

I just finished my first top end rebuild on a 08 xb12s, stock everything, new gaskets everywhere and followed the manual religiously. The bike started right away, but sounded like crap... No oil in the system, duh! Shut it down right away, lasted 3-4 sec max. A bit of smoke and a smell of oil...

Ebay still have good finds...Jardine RT-1 for $96.00

Do you still have the other end cap (exit side)? I have a GP-1 with the long pipe that exits near the swingarm, but I visually prefers the RT1 look. I don't want to buy a complete used can for just a cap. If you want to get rid of it, I'll gladly buy it from you.

Engine oil going to primary: Crankshaft seal going bad?

So my bike has been puking oil around the starter and through the transmission breather, and it wasn't until yesterday that I realized my primary was FULL of oil (we're talking more than 2 quarts), and the engine side had less than one (I guess I found the reason for the knocking sound...)...

    2008+ static timing inspection plug?

oh nice! One thing off the list!
  16. L

    Are these engines normally noisy?

The day it runs quietly is the day you'll have a problem ;)

    2008+ static timing inspection plug?

I feel stupid asking this, but where the heck is the inspection plug on 2008 and older models? I know it's at the base between both cylinders on older models but the manual for 2008/09 doesn't mention anything...

    rear rocker leak

I tried to ignore mine last summer, it killed the fan and I was bike-less for 3 weeks because the dealer couldnt locate a fan up here in Canada. If you ride with the leak, make sure to clean it daily.

Engine knocks, spits oil, then all back to normal?!

Lunatic, i was just trying to list as many details as possible if anyone could see any correlations between hard shifting/neutral and oil pressure since doing research turned up nothing. I'll get the chain tension and clutch adjusted and go from there. Agreed, the bang has no relation. About...
