I just picked up a 2002 Cyclone! Im pretty stoked. Half'ee is pretty excited cause i said we'd share.

Its pretty rough, plastics cracked and weathered but for $1200 no complaints, happy to tear it apart and restore!

Anybody have advise on working on a tuber?

Man when done right the tubers are so nice. Kind of a cross between a cafe racer and a modern sport bike. I originally wanted a tuber but picked up an xb at a steal. I think one day I still want to get one though! I'd say do some of the things like pur pony has done and it'll be a nice bike lol [up]

Lol. I've spent more time on that site than I like to admit. It's a tasteful, very well done bike.

Dayum! What a steal!! I'm jealous. Pics or it didn't happen!!

A tuber has been on my wish list since sold my old xb. They are sweet bikes for sure with lots of potential. You can just take them anyway you want?! I love it.

What are your plans for the bike? Plan on refurbishing or modifying?

Introducing my pile of crap!

Plans for it very similar to purpony, xb front suspension, powder coat the frame orange, xb wheels and the rest will get a gloss black. Performance wise, dead stock. I just want a pretty and clean cruising bike.

Looks good! Im looking for an M2 myself, lol.

Any questions just let me know. I really need to update my website. I have changed a few things around since then. Actually ive changed quite a bit and still working on it. Hope to have the bike back together and on the road within 2 weeks.

Cool! I'd like to get a nice tuber myself one of these days. I'm up to three bikes now but I can squeeze a fourth in the garage!

I have both an XB and a Tuber ... My suggestions for the tuber to start off with (and in no measure or means am I a subject matter expert ... this is just what I've experienced so far) ...

When you do your engine oil changes .... always ALWAYS run the engine first ... I know it's recommended on the XB too but on the tuber it should probably just be mandatory ... on the XB the swingarm is below the engine and gravity shouldn't really make the oil seep past the check ball and pool in the engine over time ... on the M2 the oil tank is above the oil pump/check ball/engine itself and gravity will definitely do it's work ... let the engine run about 5 mins or so to both warm up the oil and pull all of it that's made it's way into the motor back out and into the oil tank ... or else you will have an oil mess after your first few miles on the next ride ...

The crank seals seem to be a commonish fail issue with these which causes pressurized engine oil to be pushed over into the primary and eventually overflow out of the trans vent ... another oily mess ... so if it keeps spitting oil out of the trans vent and the engine seems to be "using" a lot of oil ... this might be the issue ...

Don't leave your petcock on if it's going to be sitting for more than a few hours ... just in case the float decides not to do it's job ... (had this happen to a friend's virago ... definitely not something I want happening to mine)

The factory belt drive tension setting is too tight and will cause your output shaft/rear bearings to fail quickly ... along with the primary chain slack ... (similar to the XB's in that regard) ... what I can describe to you as a good tension on the final drive belt would probably be described as "scary loose" ...

Make sure the recalls have been done on this baby ... they have quite a few on the tubers ... (rear shock ... front brake rotor hardware ... etc)

On the plus side, if you ever have any engine work to do ... the entire top end is readily accessible ... I did an entire top end rebuild on my S1 without rotating the motor being a necessity ... I did it anyway just to make things easier but I think I might have been able to do it without going through that extra trouble ... rocker boxes are a snap ... and the transmission is a trap door ... no more splitting the engine to work on that ... ALSO baker makes a 6 speed conversion for these bikes !! ... (for a fair amount of coin ... but still)

Enjoy it man ... the tubers might not be anywhere near as advanced or ride like todays bikes do ... but they are truly GREAT bikes in their own aspect ...

Negative thanks for the advise! Some i already figured (petcock shut off its a carb duh) but good info on the other stuff.

Purpony please please update, ive followed the forum enough buy im sure theres enough i dont know. I gotta find the suspension and the money. The rear shock is puking, and will most likely be my first repair, RaceTech rebuilds them around $400 and a good replacement costs a $1000, I have the XB rims xb brakes and a few other misc. got the bike for cheap im willing to spend the money. It just feels good, meant to be!
