03 XB9R died on track, will not restart - where to start?

buell ignitions are dual-fire. your coil naturally is dual-fire. as in all coils the primary side charged by 12 volts. your spec reading is fine. the secondary is the high-voltage side which eventually releases its charge in the form of spark to each plug. that's the simplest i can explain it. your secondary reading is way off. replace the coil. available and reasonably priced.

Got plenty sitting here known good, just let me know. So does Paul.

I doubt that's the issue but 35k it's possible. I've never seen a coil fail.

Just the wires or cam position sensor.

I jumped on fleabay this morning and ordered a used coil and plug wires set off a torn down previously running bike with 15K, $40 shipped. Not to bad to fix or at least eliminate this part from the equation with good confidence. When the bike initially quit running on the track there were no symptoms of coil, except that it would not fire at all hot and as the bike cooled would fire a little. Then that engine seized up, which I guess I need to tear into it and see why she no longer go 'round.

I compared resistance readings and continuity of the old and new cam position sensors and they seem to both be the same. The fact that the injectors are click-clacking away when I rotate the rear wheel tells me that the CPS must be working.

Golly this thing is being difficult. Got the replacement coil in and still no fire.

I really think this is an electrical issue somewhere, ECM maybe? From what I can tell through the starter circuit I am getting neither spark nor fuel. I actually connected the old fuel injectors and fuel pump and held over a bucket when cranking the engine and I see nothing coming out. I sprayed ether into the throttle body and nothing there either. After spraying the ether I did the ECMspy coil test and got a big ole bang back fire on the rear cylinder! I swapped out crank position sensors from the new and old engine, not that they could not both be bad, but seems unlikely - besides that when I rotate the engine with the key on I am getting injector activity and on the static timing screen see the 0-5 volt changeover. I think that means the CPS must be working. Any more ideas what else I can check or how to test the ECM itself? It there anything in the ignition switch, kill switch, fuses, or relays that might can cause this?

Not that I'm an expert at troubleshooting, but have you taken apart the kill switch housing maybe you've got a short or one of wires came off the circuit board. Something to check at least and could be that simple.

I'm going to embarrassingly tell what my problem was. Speedo sensor and CPS sensors connected to the wrong cables I the harness! I can't believe I did that. I know, the connectors are even matched colors. Really dumb. I'm only posting this in case it might help some other poor soul later. Thanks all for your great advice,

I've always wondered what would happen if those connectors got crossed up. Anytime I've had to mess with disconnecting those connectors I take a quick minute to label them with masking tape.
Thanks for posting.
Quick tip to anyone rebuilding a motor or what not; bag and tag everything.
