hello, I recently bought an 04 xb12s and immediately had problems with it. i bought it off craigslist and as soon as i got home the bike stalled. it took like 3 tries before it started back up again. sometimes it just doesn't want to start unless i leave it alone a few hours. it always starts after leaving it for a few hours (3-4 hrs). Now, the previous owner had just replaced the fuel pump, and I read on another thread that someone was having a similar problems and it turned out to be the o-rings in the fuel pump, he said they leaked and the bike didn't start unless he left it alone for a while. Could it be that the previous owner did not change the o-rings? any help would be greatly appreciated since I cant ride my new bike fearing that it will leave me stranded. thanks :)

Just to be clear: it cranks over well but doesn't fire up? Does it sound like its trying to fire?

Yep, it cranks over, just doesnt start. One time i was trying to start it, and a couple of drops of fuel fell from behind the seat, on the left side of the bike.

Oh i forgot, i already replaced the coil and spark plugs as well...when its cranking over it doesnt do anything else, just cranking. Not even a hint of trying to start. But if i leave it alone, for a few hours it starts just fine.

That's your gas breather tube....you aren't overfilling when you gas up are you?

No, actually i have never taken it to fill up. Still has the gas i purchased it with, about half a tank i would say

Assuming the bike gas spark. Do you hear the furl pump prime, then shut of before you start it?

mine would not start for the 1st time yesterday. I messed with connections and started when I touched a fuse.
