Hey guys new here just picked up an '05 xb lightning that had been wrecked the main harness was pretty chewed up so I purchased a harness from a'04 firebolt assuming it would be the same long story short alot on here probably already know they are similar but in reverse lol other than the obvious the fuse and relay boxes in the front instead of in the battery area on the lightning does anyone know any other differences I need to look for? Am I creating a bigger headache by trying to use the firebolt harness instead of just buying an actual harness off of a lightning? Any input or help would be greatly appreciated 1 more question I have is in this harness there is a plug with a red and black wire looking to be 10 gauge wires I would assume its for battery connections? Thanks in advance

Can you post a picture of that plug? Might be the bank angle sensor plug. That's located in front on firebolts. BTW it would be A LOT easier for you to use the correct harness. Unless you plan on pretty much making a new harness out of the one you bought and your old one spliced together or something. Does not sound like fun!
A few guys have stuffed the ECM, relays, fuse box and BAS under the S flyscreen when they've done an S conversion on a firebolt. However, I think for what you're trying to do you might just want to replace the harness with a direct replacement. Will save you a lot of time and heart ache.
That's my 2cents.
Good luck

I know its not the bank angle plug its heavier gauge wire that looks to me that would possibly plug into a main battery harness if there is 1 or something similar its a flat plug with a red and a black wires thatnare fairly heavy gauge wire and yes it probably would be alot easier to buy another harness specific to the lightning I wasn't aware the lightning and firebolt. Would be different ill try and get a pic to load of the plug I'm talking about

Im not 100% positive but I think that's the voltage regulator connector. Look behind your front pulley cover and I think you'll find what you have pictured.

Thanks for the help ill look tonight the only main issue with the firebolt. Harness is the fusebox and relay boxes are up in front so as to mount in the front fairing where as the lightning is underneath the seat other than that I personally can't see any other differences but again I'm no expert by far lol just going by what I can see so far

I guess another question I have is where would I find the bank angle sensor on a lightning? I know on the firebolts are in the front fairing but I've got no clue on the lightning
Thanks again for any help

I have a bolt and I'm in the middle of a conversion to a single headlight. I was originally planning on splicing and dicing my R harness to relocate the items you just mentioned. I was thinking that making my R harness into something like an S was going to be fairly straight forward. I thought the components could easily be reorganized and relocated. Once I rotated my engine and removed the top triple tree to move everything under the airbox, I discovered that the conversion of the R harness is going to be the hardest thing to accomplish. Unless you have a ton of time and just as much patience... ...just buy an S harness. Unless you really want the challenge.
I'm about to yank my R harness and purchase an S to replace it.
This is what I've been staring atimage.jpg
I've tried labeling things and envisioning where to start splicing, shortening and lengthening. Ultimately I think the harness issue has intimidated me enough to convince me that buying an S harness is the easiest option.
I don't have to electrical skills or patience to accomplish what others have. I'm man enough to admit that.
On the bright side, I'll have a good R harness if I decide to go back.
Sorry to get so long winded. Just wanted you to know where I'm coming from on my advice.
Good luck
And your BAS is located under your seat. I think it's in between the battery and ECM on the S models.
